Running a hand through your hair, everything was silent

Running a hand through your hair, everything was silent. The two of you hadn't spoke a word to each other the whole drive. After what had just happened, you figured it was best that way. Hershel's farm was gone, the barn had gone up in flames and was now an attraction for all walkers in the area. The once prosperous land that it was was now nothing more than the rest of the world, abandoned.

You had planned on going with Daryl, someone who was a close friend of yours. No one had even noticed that you'd left, until Glenn realized that he didn't know where you were. It had been rough, the past few weeks on the farm. While everyone else believed it was a safe haven, you found it to be your own personal hell. The events that had taken place there and within the group were things that had more of an effect on you than most people. It was a lonely time for you, on that farm, and you couldn't have been happier that you finally got to leave it.

Glenn was someone whom you had admired deeply, you trusted him. But things were different now, and you hadn't spoke with him for god knows how long.

After the events of Dale, your father figure, people just seemed to leave you alone. You didn't mind though, you took that time to grow. The time you weren't spending alone was spent with Daryl or Rick's family, who you had grown quite close to.

Finally being alone with Glenn after so long was something you just couldn't adjust to. He didn't know who you were anymore, you had changed. You were stronger, a leader, and he couldn't seem to keep up with that.

You sniffled softly, a wave of emotions flooding your head. You didn't know who had made it out, and that terrified you. You weren't worried about people like Daryl, though. You knew he was alive. He was made for this world. The Greenes, however, hadn't opened their eyes to the new reality until a week or two ago. Their chances were currently slim.

Glenn glanced over at you upon hearing your sniffle and shaky breathing. You didn't meet his eyes, though. Your gaze was caught out the window as you sat in silence for minutes more.

"Why didn't you tell me you were going to go with Daryl?" Glenn spoke softly, worry lacing the words.

You pinched the bridge of your nose, sighing as you looked at yourself in the wing mirror. Your eyes were slightly bloodshot, splotches of blood covering your face alongside the marks that had appeared on your complexion shortly after you started crying.

"I didn't think you would care about my whereabouts." You muttered, wiping your eyes. Glenn watched as you took a few deep breaths, your chest heaving up and down slowly.

Turning to face him, you took in the sight of him. He wasn't covered in blood like you were, he didn't have the same fight in his eyes as you did. Maybe you had outgrown him. Maybe he too, wasn't the same person you used to be so familiar with. You didn't know.

"Why wouldn't I care?" you scoffed quietly, a small heart-aching chuckle releasing from your mouth before you could stop it.

You couldn't believe him. After those first few weeks of laughing together and enjoying eachother's company, he shut you out. Even worse, he didn't have a damn clue why.

"I don't know, Glenn. You didn't seem to care when Dale died," anger boiled inside of you, but you attempted to stay calm. "When I was hurting, when I needed you. You didn't care then, so why do you care now?"

Glenn felt a sudden pang of misconduct. He didn't mean to make you feel that way. He hadn't realized the toll that his actions had taken on you. Was he really so blind that he was unable to depict the way he hurt you? Did it phase him?

"I'm sorry, okay? Just- can we try again?" he said gently. He desperately wanted to try and persuade you to give him another chance.

You glared at him, disgusted at the fact that he thought he could win you over so easily. He would've been able to before, but not now, not after everything that had happened.

"I couldn't see you like that. I couldn't bare to look you in the eyes and see nothing but hurt. I didn't want to hurt you more," he was stern, and he sure as hell was sorry.

"I couldn't watch you hurt. It broke my heart."

"That made it worse! I felt like nothing without you!" the words fumbled along as you yelled them in Glenn's direction. Tears began trailing down your face once again.

You looked down at your blistered and dry knuckles, covered in blood. Things were so different now. So strange. The joy in life was gone. Even after it all happened you had been a fairly happy person. You always tried to lift spirits and look for the good. But now, you didn't even know who you were.

This world tended to change people, some quicker than others. You had been one of its most recent victims. The death of Dale sending you down a dark road, that no one seemed to follow.

You saw it though, you saw Rick and Carol heading down the same path as you, reality. Shane had changed as well, but it drove him mad, ended up getting him killed. You were stronger than that. Rick and Carol were stronger than that. The direction that Glenn was heading in was unclear, however. You weren't sure whether that was a good or bad thing.

"This is the world now, Glenn." you whispered solemnly, "We can't change that." it stung to speak such words of grievance.

"Maybe not," he reached over and took your hand in his, "but we can change how we live in it. I'm here now, and I promise, I will not shut you out again. I will not leave you in the darkness."

An immense sensation of wonderstruck filled your senses, a sad smile quirking the corners of your lips up. You didn't understand it, but something about his touch restored a part of you.
"Alright." you whispered.

You wouldn't be completely the same, that was for sure. But you were glad to have him back. You slightly nodded, a look of relief washing over Glenn's features. Gently, Glenn brushed your hair out of your face, and left a light kiss in its place.

People can change, and sometimes, people can change you.
