It was a particularly calm morning in Alexandria. You had just finished breakfast and were now on your way over to Rick's to watch over Judith whilst he and some others went on a supply run. You were originally supposed to be joining him, but someone held you back.

You had been in and out lately, and it seemed to Daryl that you were trying to spend as much time away from Alexandria as possible. He understood why, and let you have your way for as long as he could manage. However, it turned out he couldn't manage for too long. You were often gone for long periods of times, which sent Daryl absolutely berserk.

He couldn't handle not know if you were okay, not being able to be there for you. The two of you had argued over it a few times, and of course you ended up winning. He hated to admit it, but you always won. Even when you were in fact wrong. Which you were about this.

He knew why you wanted to get away, he knew you didn't like living under Deanna's rule, but he also knew that it wouldn't be long till Rick got his hands on the leadership seat (sweet another ricktatorship). Daryl knew that you were scared of becoming weak, because he knew that you felt the need to always stay strong. But he also knew that sometimes you and he both needed a little refresher about what really mattered: family. And right now, your family was in Alexandria.

So, after a small predicament, you agreed to stay back from this one run. You didn't do it for you, you did it for Daryl and the others. God knows you wanted to be out there in the free, but you also knew that Daryl needed this.

After entering Rick's house and greeting him and Michonne as they left, you were left with little Judith. You weren't the best with kids, but when Carl couldn't babysit, you were always first to offer. Judith seemed to enjoy your company.

You had started teaching Judith about the alphabet when Daryl entered the room which the two of you were sat in. You acknowledged him with a small grin, him sitting beside you and Judith on the ground.

Judith began playing with her doll as you and Daryl conversed, talking about whatever came to mind. In the midst of your conversation, you began braiding Judith's thin hair. She didn't have a lot of hair, and it was certainly quite thin, but recently it had grown a bit and was now just long enough for you to form two small braids that didn't even touch her shoulders. It was absolutely adorable.

You swiftly finished the first braid and then moved onto the second, finding it a bit more difficult because of her lack of hair. Daryl noticed your struggle, seeing as you bit the inside of your cheek whenever you were in thought, something which he had grown to notice and adore.

"It's really not tha' complicated; braidin' hair." He commented snarkily, causing you to stifle a laugh and bump his shoulder.

"With this small amount of hair? I'd like to see you try and do better than me." You retorted, smiling as Judith turned around to flash you a grin, then turning back around.

Daryl hummed in reply, stepping in and grabbing the thing piece of hair between his calloused finger tips. You watched ad he weaved the strands in ways which either way were not a braid. You chuckled as he chewed on his bottom lip.

In the end, Daryl had left out several strands from his so called "braid", and you went back and fixed it. Shortly after, Judith fell asleep and Daryl stepped out so you could put her to bed. Once she was comfy in bed, you left the room, closing the wooden door behind you gently.

You made your way to the front porch where Daryl sat on the steps, and took a seat next to him. Not much was heard or exchanged as you rested your head on his shoulder, feeling his chest lift up and down with each breath. It was a comforting movement.

Daryl inhaled sharply, picking under his finger tips as he began to speak, "I'm glad you stayed today."

You sighed, having completely forgotten the run you were supposed to be out on right now.
"You coulda easily left and not spent time with me today- with Judith" he continued, turning to face you as you removed your head from his firm shoulder.

"I enjoyed it- and even though I really wanted to go on that run," you grasped Daryl's hand in your own, looking straight ahead, "I am glad I chose to stay after all."

You turned back and faced Daryl's astonishing georgia blues, a small grin plastered on your features.

"But that doesn't change the fact that you can't braid." You added, receiving a low but loving chuckle from Daryl- a rare sound that made your heart swell.

Daryl brought your forehead to his lips, planting a short but sweet kiss before you placed your head back to its spot on his shoulder.
He grunted, "I guess it's a lot more complex than I could handle."
