Lily could only think of two options; call in sick, or have Crystal cover for her.
Crystal. The new girl Lily envied, but at the same time got easily annoyed with. Perhaps it was because she envied the girl, though it didn't seem like it. Crystal was beautiful, her face looked flawless, her hair was textured and thick, and she was tall. Everytime Lily saw Crystal's hair, she wanted to run her fingers through it and touch it.
Though, at the same time, Lily wanted to jump up and punch Crystal's flawless face. She was loud and annoying, and occasionally rude to costumers. In the beginning, when Adam was watching, Lily got in trouble for Crystal's rudeness.
"There are times I just want to sock her in the face," Lily said to Jess. She bit her sandwich with such rage that she also bit her cheek. It drew blood. Lily quickly swallowed the bread that was soaking with blood, a bad choice.
"Kill her with kindness," Jess suggested, he passed Lily some napkins. Thinking the red at the corner of her mouth was sriracha. "Maybe she'll stop it, or maybe she just doesn't like you. No one else is complaining. I think she's fun to be around."
Lily got up from her chair, she grabbed her water and filled her mouth with it. Before swishing it around, walking over to the sink, and spitting it down the drain.
"Was that a bad sandwich?" Jess asked, laughing a little.
"No, I'm bleeding," Lily said, before filling her mouth with water again.
"Oh!"
Lily heard the sound of a chair moving, then a crash, she looked behind to see Jess on the floor. She wasn't sure if he had fainted or tripped from trying to help.
Lily had thought about what Jess had said that day a lot. Maybe part of her was just envy, though that made Lily feel sour. She didn't want to admit that she was envious of someone, because envy did NOT look good on a person.
Lily went into the back entrance of the store, changed into her uniform, then clocked in for her shift. It would have been smarter of her to ask someone in advance to cover for her but given the time she had, she had to make it last minute. She looked at the time on her watch, it was currently 3pm, meaning she had two more hours until it was time.
Why did she need to leave work early? Because there was something very important to her showing on TV in a few hours. The AMAs.
BTS was going to preform, she wouldn't miss it for the world. She didn't have cable TV, so she would have to find a live stream. She also wanted to watch the red carpet live stream as well that way she would be getting as much of BTS' faces as she could. This was an important moment for BTS and all of Kpop history and she wanted to experience it first hand.
Lily made her way into the main part of the store, pulling along a pallet mover of boxes. Her main goal was to find Crystal, but she would also have to do her job in the process. She put the pallet mover at the end of the aisle, and took two of the boxes, and set them down on the floor. She knelt down next to them, pulling out a utility knife and then cutting them open.
Lily quickly stocked the shelves, her hands working from memory. With almost eight years of experience, her job felt effortless. That's not to say it wasn't, by the end of the day she was tired and could hardly make the drive home. Today was a better day, she didn't have community college classes that morning, or at all. It was Sunday, it felt like a happy day. Tomorrow would be awful, same could be said for Wednesday, she had early morning classes those days. She regretted signing up for it so early.
