Chapter 8

Mining for Lapis

I sat on the small bed that I had crafted, and looked outside. Vent and Steve had just left my small house, which left me staring at the wooden floor. I managed to sit up and stretch my arms before my day began. I dusted off my cloths, and kicked the dirt out of my shoes. I ran my fingers through my hair and attempted to untangle my wavy blonde mess. I pushed open the door to my house, and walked outside. There were guards patrolling the houses, and small children splashing around in the fresh puddles. I smiled. It was a beautiful day. It was warm, animals were going up to the kids, people were splashing in the puddles, everything was perfect. Misty sighed sadly. If only Ender was here to see this.

She pulled a stone pick-axe out of her inventory and began to dig a staircase mine. The sun was halfway in the sky when Misty found an ore other than coal. It was lapis lazuli! Misty broke the ore into fragments, and pulled out the odd blue gems. She placed a torch and examined the minerals. They were as tiny as rubies, but as clear as diamonds. They were absolutely beautiful, and she knew just what to to with them. She placed them in her inventory and continued to mine.

"Mineshaft" she whispered to herself. The place was dimply lit, and showed no signed of life except for the occasional hissing of spiders. Misty took carful steps onto the creaky, unsupported, wooden boards. After looking a chest and finding four string, six bones, two bread, three sticks, and a wolf spawn egg, she began to head home.

She was just going back into the strip mine when something sharp, bit down on her leg. She screamed, and bolted up into the mine. She had made it to the surface when she began to pass out. "Help..." she whispered painfully, and drifted off to the darkness.
