Alistair's POV
-Time skip of about three months-
I couldn't contain my excitement. One of the eggs had started to crack open and I knew at any moment a little baby dragon could pop out and greet us. Us being Comet, Domino, Emerald and I. I was a bit worried about Comet and Domino getting a bit too rough or excited but they have done really well with all the other dragons so far.
Everyone's attention was quickly pulled towards one of the beds in the room when the egg cracked even more. I had separated the egg from all the others once I found out it had cracked. Comet started pushing his nose up onto the bed and I had to pull him back when it cracked again. Silence filled the room as the egg cracked again. And then again. And again. I was thrown into a mind breaking suspense when it stopped. I closed my eyes tight and sighed, I couldn't handle this wait. There was a squawk and I popped my eyes open just in time to see Emerald fly up and start cleaning the newly born baby dragon. He was a beautiful gold color and his scales seemed to sparkle. It was hard to take my eyes off him but I ran off to the kitchen after only moments to get a baby milk bottle from the fridge and warm it up. I rushed down the hallway and back into the room just in time. The baby dragon had just started to let out a cry for food. I gave Emerald a look as I approached it and after an approving nod, I gently picked the baby dragon up in one of the blankets. The baby looked up at me in wonder and I couldn't help but smile down at the small guy.
I slowly moved the baby bottle closer to the little dudes mouth and let him sniff it. He surprised me when he latched onto it with his mouth and pulled it closer. I was so relieved, I had been scared since the beginning that I wouldn't be able to feed them. Emerald obviously couldn't do it and they wouldn't be able to eat real food for a while. I walked around, checking out the other eggs as the baby finished off the bottle. He quickly fell asleep afterwards. I set him down carefully in one of the beds on the floor and pushed some blankets up around it to keep him warm. Emerald curled herself around him, silently letting me know she would watch over him. I ushered the dogs out and opened the back door for them. It was really early in the morning and they haven't had a chance to go out yet. I slowing walked into the kitchen, taking everything in. While it had been months since I had met Emerald, it was still strange to think I had dragons staying in my backyard, leaving eggs and even one living in my house.
I grabbed some food quickly before going outside and filling the multiple bowls on the back porch. I made my way around to a few holes I knew would want personal food and then filled up Comet and Domino's bowl inside. They flew inside at the sound and immediately started chowing down. All of a sudden Emerald was flying right in front of my face, making small whining noises. I furrowed my brows, confused.
"What's going on?" I asked her, starting to panic a bit. She latched onto my shirt sleeve and drug me across the kitchen and up to the dragon door. I pushed the door open and gasped when another small dragon was laying next to the gold one. He was a bright green color with beautiful blue spots on his legs. I ran into the kitchen for another bottle and started feeding the second newborn. My excitement was getting to be too much so as soon as I finished the feeding, I went out to play with the dogs some.
Comet was overjoyed to get to play and Domino wagged his tail just as much, even when he let Comet get the ball first. We must have played for hours outside because when we went inside, I was starving. I pulled some cold pizza out of the fridge and walked into the dragon room to check everything out. Emerald was curled around the two babies and another egg had started to crack. I grabbed some bottles and warmed them up before going back to the room to feed them. As I fed the babies I couldn't help but start feeling overwhelmed. There will still five unhatched eggs, I had no idea how I was going to keep all of them happy and fed at the right times. I left the room after feeding them and decided to watch some Netflix till I felt like sleeping.
After a few hours, my eyes started to get droopy. I pulled myself away from the dogs and blankets warmth and started trudging my way upstairs. I peeked into the dragon room for a second, Emerald was sleeping a little ways away from the babies and the crack on the egg had gotten bigger. I made up my mind and rushed up the stairs. I pushed the door open to my room and pulled some pillows and all the blankets into my arms. I carefully walked back down the stairs, only tripping twice and shoved the dragon room door open. I made up a makeshift bed on the floor and called in the dogs. I shut off the light, laying down on the floor. Comet jumped right on top of me and I couldn't stop my laughs as he licked my face. Domino trotted in moments later and laid down at my side. Comet calmed down and laid down at my other side. I looked over at Emerald and patted the spot in between Comet and I. She pushed the babies over and laid down with the rest of us. She was asleep in seconds and I felt bad for her. She had helped watch the baby dragons all day and had spent all her time with them. Closing my eyes to sleep, I silently promised myself and Emerald that I would help out more. We would do this together.
