Alistair's POV
-A little over a week timeskip-
Winter had just begun and all the eggs had hatched perfectly. The babies were already causing mischief. A few of them had even started eating puppy food. I was pulled from my thoughts when the shower water started to get cold. I jumped out of the shower and wrapped a big fluffy towel around my shoulders, quickly shuffling past the mirror. The door to the bathroom suddenly flew open and a flurry of small dragons came at me. I stepped back, startled and almost tripped over the rug. A pink dragon latched onto my towl and tugged, I yanked back. Soon enough all the dragons were helping out their pink friend and I was without a towl. Emerald rushed in and screeched at all the smaller dragons. They immediately followed her from the room and I gave her an appreciative smile. I turned towards the now unfogged mirror and cringed. I didn't have an issue with any part of my body other than my left arm, where a pink scar sat.
Scenes from that day, from the car crash flashed through my mind and I whipped my head away from the sight. I dried myself off and jogged out of the bathroom. I threw on some random clothes and made my way down stairs to feed myself and everyone else. I got food out for the baby dragons first and let them feast while the dogs and I went outside. There were less dragons than usual and I guessed it was because of the cold weather. It wasn't long before we were back inside and I was eating my own bowl of food.
Just as I was finishing up and putting my bowl in the sink, a little purple and green dragon jumped up on the table. I rubbed it's head a bit and watched silently as it sniffed around. My eyes widened when it took a leap of faith off the kitchen counter. I threw myself forward and barely caught him. My heart was beating a mile a minute as I laid on the floor but he just walked off like nothing happened. I turned over on my back and sighed, rubbing my eyes. A weight appeared on my chest and when I opened my eyes I was greeted with Emeralds face.
"What are we going to do with these guys? We don't even know when their parents will come back, if they even do." I said, running my hand down her back. Emerald flew up and I followed her over to the back door. She and I both sat down and stared outside. All of a sudden an idea popped into my mind. "I think we should like train them." I said, looking over at Emerald for what she thought about it. She nodded her head and I smiled.
Everyone was up early the next day. I quickly fed everyone and once the babies were finished, I grabbed them all up. I opened the back door and let the dogs go out before I did. I carefully set all seven babies down and let them do a little exploring. While they had been outside before, this was the first time not being held in a certain area. Emerald flew out moments later and let out a screech, calling all the smaller dragons to her. They crowded around her and sat down, waiting for her instructions. Emerald let out another noise and took off into the air. She coaxed the little ones up with more noises and gentle nudges. After a bit and with a little help, all the babies were flying around and trying to do tricks. Emerald made a noise, causing a few of the little guys to run into each other. I couldn't help but chuckle a bit from my spot on the ground.
Emerald flew over the edge of the forest and waited patiently as the dragons tumbled their way over to her. They all took off into the forest and I quickly got up to follow. We took the path towards the pond and my brows furrowed at what she planned on doing. As soon as we got there, Emerald landed and after some trouble the babies did too. Emerald made sure everyone was watching and dipped one of her clawed hands into the water. She pulled out a small koi fish and slowed all the babies. A few went forward, planning to take a bite out of it but Emerald scarfed it down.
Emerald backed away and let the little guys take a chance at a fish. They all stumbled around the ponds edge, disturbing the water and the fish. A little red one flew up and over to the other side. I expected him to land and try to catch a fish but instead he dove into the water and came back up with one in his mouth. He flew over to his friends and showed off his catch before eating it. Everyone was soon trying to dive in and grab a fish that way. It worked for most and soon enough all the babies had had their fill.
I was thinking that Emerald should teach them how to swim but it seems like they already knew how. I got up, calling over the dogs and grabbed a stick. I threw the stick and Comet took off, Domino following after him. I watched silently as the dragons jumped and flew around the trees. A few even attempted to catch a chipmunk. Domino came running back at me with the stick in his mouth as Comet continued to run into his side to try and grab it. Just as Domino dropped the stick in my hand, Comet grabbed it and dropped it back down again. I laughed out loud and started petting them. I stopped and threw the stick again but before the dogs could even run off, one of the babies grabbed it midair. They flew to me and dropped it in my hand. I smiled and ran a hand down it's back. I picked up another stick and threw them both, starting the ultimate match of fetch.
