Chapter 4

"This isn't funny. Tell me who you are, now, or I'm going to hang up on your ass!" I yelled. What a sick joke that somebody would make up! La Cygne is not very big, so things travel fast. And romours get to everyone. There were romours that Gage got sent away to Juvie. Another was that the police killed him but said that he was just sent away to camp. Only my father, the police, Gage, and I know the truth and know that it's the thruth, instead of thinking that it's just some romour.

"Hey!" They yelled, sounding shocked. "Watch your mouth, young lady!"

My eyes widened. "G- Gage?" I hiccuped.

"Yeah. Why are you nervous?"

"What? I'm- I'm not nervous. I'm surprised." I lied.

"No, you might be surprised, but you're also nervous. You can't lie. You always hiccup when you're nervous." Crap. He caught me in the lie. "Now, spill. Why are you nervous?"

"Uh, Gage? I'm so excited to see you! Er-, Not see you. I'm so excited to speak with you! Dad said that at your camp they wouldn't let you talk to anybody." I wanted to hug him through the phone.

"At camp?"

I nodded, but then realized that he couldn't hear me so I said "Yupp. At your camp in Austin, Texas."

"Damn, they looked that shit up alot."

"Um, excuse me? Are you telling me that you're not in a camp?" I questioned, absloutly shocked.

"No! I'm in a camp, but it's not in Austin. It's in Houston. And, its not the type of 'camp' you think." Gage said in a rush. Then he sighed.

"Oh." Was all I said.

"On the chop chop, tell me why you're nervous. Now." I didn't say anything. "/Now,/ Deir."

"Well, dad- uh- maybe just caught me hanging out with a black guy... But, hey, he doesn't like me like that, and he didn't do anything that I didn't want him to!" I whined, sounding like a baby. Then there was a silence on the other end. "Gage? Are you okay?"

"Yes. Yes, I'm fine. Tell me the whole story. now."

Gage's words were harsh, and they scared me, so I obeyed immediantly and told him the story.

"Deir, I'm going to come up. I'll be there in a couple of days. And act like you want nothing to do with this black guy around dad and your boyfriend. I dont care how you act with him."

"Uh -Gage? I thought you couldn't get out? And why?"

"Well, I kinda saved up my holidays so I could see you for more than just a couple of days. So, I'll be there in a couple of days. and just because I told you to." Gage sighed again.

"Um... okay. G- great. I'll clean your room up right now." I sat up and started to open the door.

"No."

"Why not?"

"Well, I- I won't be sleeping there."

"Did you have a girlfriend that I didn't know about?" I teased, laughing.

"Oh, yeah!" Gage said sarcasticly. "A girlfriend that I've had since I was thirteen and still have now, ten years later, when I'm 23. yupp." We both laughed. "No, I won't be staying there because your dad won't be so happy that I used my holiday time to come there. Yeah, he won't be happy at all."

"But- Why? He'll be sooo so happy! He'll love to see you!" I yelled, shocked that Gage would say something like that. "Deir, did Harold once cry about me leaving? Just once did he?"
