Chapter 5

I woke up, remembering that last nights events really happened, and that it all wasn't just one big dream.

I sat up, changed my clothes, and went downstairs. Dad was sitting on his blue recliner, eating a sandwhich from subway. He was also watching telivision, and it was on the news. Suddenly, the phone rang. I ran to it, and answered. "Hello, this is Deirdra Smallders speaking."

"Erm, hello, Ma'am. Is Harry Smallders home?" An odd voice said.

I pushed my hair away from my face before answering. "yeah, he's on his lunch break. Would you like to talk to him?" I started walking towards dad.

"No! Er, when do you think he'll be back at work?" The man asked.

My racist dad was a construction worker. So, he didn't have a lot of time to eat lunch; they only gave him 20 minutes. "Well, Probably abouttt...." I looked at the clock. "Ten to fifteen minutes. May I ask why?"

"Well, I'm going to visit him at work with a present. I want it to be a surprise, so don't tell him. Thank you, Deir." He said, then hung up. Well, that was interesting...

"Who was that, Deir?" R.D. (Racist Dad) yelled from the living room.

"Oh, I don't know. Some guy just called asking when you were going to be at work. So, you might want to get there pretty quick, Daddy." That was so childish.

"Deirdra, I think I'm going to call in sick today. Just so I can be home with you..." R.D. put on a worried face, that I believed was fake.

I thought about the man that had called about having a surprise for him at work. How horrible would that be?!?!? "No, Daddy!" I ran over to him, pushed the hair out of my face, and sat down my knees, and feet. I grabbed his hands. "Daddy, go to work. I'll be fine!"

"Well, okay. Come here, Deir." I got up and followed Daddy into his room, where he opened his closet door, the one he told me to never get into, and punished Gage when he got into it.

Flashback

I was six years old, and Gage was twelve. I was playing with my Stuffed Animals: Teddy, my Teddy bear, Tigger, my Tigger stuffed animal from Winnie the Pooh, and Hippew, my Pink Hippo. I was sitting on the floor, criss, cross, applesauce, pretending that Teddy was easily telling Tigger that his mommy, Hippew had gone to Heaven. Tigger was my favorite, so he always shared the same feelings and experiences with me. But just as I was about to make Hippew come back to life, and live happily ever after with Tigger and Teddy, just like I had always wanted my mommy to do, Gagie ran into Daddies room, pushing the door almost closed. I wondered what was going on, so I crawled over to Daddies doorway, and climbed up on the bed. "Gagie, what are you doing?" I asked.

He didn't even look at me. "Uh, Deir, go play with your dolls." He said, grabbing baggies fillie with white powder in them. Then he grabbed guns out of them and shoved them into his duffle bag.

I sighed. "Fiiiine." I went back into the living room and continued playing with my stuffed animals.

Then Daddy came into the house, yelling "GAGE! Gage, Don't you DARE get in that closet!" I never knew what Daddy was yelling at Gage about, but I knew thatit happened really, really often.

Daddy reached his room, and I saw Gagie jump out the window. Daddie groaned in frustration. And then he saw me...

Daddy ran back into his room, got a gun out from under the bed, and grabbed Tigger. Then he called someone. And, next, he threw Tigger up in the air and shot him, and his arm was blasted off. I was so shocked, that as soon as the bullet hit Tigger, I started screaming and sobbing, on the top of my lungs. I heard Daddy say, "I just shot your sister in the arm. Come home, or she'll die." Then Daddy hung up. "Deir," he told me. "Don't ever, ever, ever get into my closet. alright?" I nodded.

A couple minutes later, I was still crying about the horrible death of my beloved Tigger. Except, I was in a different room. Gages room. Daddy had set me down on the bed, and told me not to move as he hid behind the door.

Gagfe came running into the room, breathing heavy. He ran towards me, and daddy came out from behind the door. And tackled Gage, puching him. After Daddy was done, I went over to Gage, telling hm to wake up. When he didn't, I ran to the neighbors, frantic for help. Even at the age of six, I knew I couldn't loose my brother. Not then.

An ambulance came, and took Gage to the hospital. He had a huge concussion, and had super bad migranes from then and on.

End Of Flashback

"Deir? Deir?" A voice woke me up from the past. I shook my head, clearing my vision, and saw that Daddy was holding something out to me. I looked at it, and saw he was holding a gun, with a pack of bullets. He handed them to me. "To protect yourself from the niggers."

I wanted to punch him right then and there, but I didn't. I took the gun, and smiled at him. "Thank you." I forced myself to say. He smiled at me.

"Now, Deir, don't go to their houses today. Don't even look at them. Or you will be punished, like Gage was." I nodded looking down.

"I will never make that mistake again, Daddy." I lied.

"Alright. And, oh, right. Did you unplug the T.V. last night?" He asked, putting on his coat. I shook my head, lying. "Hmmm... Alright. Good bye, Deir." He kissed my fourhead, and walked out the door.

I turned, about to walk upstairs again. Then there was a knock on the door. I groaned and opened it. There, standing in front of me, was Gage...
