*Claire's POV*
It's been a few days since I left my home and abusive relationship with Alex. Things had been going good, I decided to take a little vacation from work because I needed to sort through things inside my head before returning to work.
"Wanna go out to eat?" Dave said as he walked down the stairs.
"Sure." I said smiling at him. We grabbed our jackets and left. We were still close to where I used to live and Alex so in public I was still scared that he would find me. As we drove to the restaurant I began to be more nervous.
"Claire, it's okay you're safe with me." Dave said before we exited the vehicle. We walked into the small restaurant and right there we saw Alex. When I laid eyes on him my blood ran cold, I tensed up and the hair on the back of my neck stood straight up
"Claire where the hell have you been?" Alex asked as he caught sight of me.
"Anywhere I don't have to deal with you." I said icily.
"You're coming with me now." Alex said staring me down. He grabbed my arm with bruising force that made me yelp.
"Look asshole she's not going anywhere with you." Dave said I could hear anger piercing through his words arrow.
"And what are you gonna do about it?" Alex asked Dave staring him down.
"Anything I have to in order to keep her safe." Dave said.
That a when Alex lunged at him shoving me to the ground. He busted Dave in face which only served to do one thing. It pissed him off even more to where he started beating the crap out of Alex. Things started getting pretty bad that's when I said something.
"Dave stop. Please I can't take losing you." I said it coming out strangled. That's when Dave stood up and look at me with apologetic eyes.
"I'm sorry." He said looking at me.
"Its okay let's just go, I'll cook us something." I told him with a smile. As we walked out he was still shaking.
*Dave's POV*
I handed her my keys. I was too shaken up from the fight to drive. She unlocked my car and we climbed in. I felt so bad for all of that.
"Claire I'm so sorry this was supposed to be fun." I said wringing my wrists.
"Dave it's okay. I'm more worried about you. When we get back you need to let me look at your face clean it up." She told me looking at me with the smile of hers.
"Alright." I said looking at her. I've always had a thing for her but I never told her cause I didn't want to risk ruining our friendship.
"Dave, thank you for what you did back there. I'm just sorry that Alex out you in that position." Claire said looking at me as we sat stopped at a stoplight.
"You're welcome, it's okay Claire. You mean that much to me. If I had to do it all again I would." I told her looking into her beautiful eyes.
We pulled up in front of the house and started making our way inside. As soon as we were inside she grabbed my hand and lead me to the upstairs bathroom where she proceeded to grab the nessacery items to clean up my face.
*Claire's POV*
Dave winced a little as I started cleaning the dried blood off of his busted lip and the small split on the the side of his face.
"Sorry did I hurt you?" I asked him as he winced again.
"No it's just a little sore. I haven't been popped in the face in a while." He said with a light chuckle.
"Well it doesn't look like you need serious medical attention so that's a plus." I said to him a small relieved smile playing at the corners of my mouth. I finished cleaning his lip and but a couple small butterfly band aids to close the where Alex split his face open.
He stood up and looked at his reflection. He looked almost as he went three rounds of hell in a cell with an angry gorilla.
"It looks pretty bad doesn't it." Dave asked looking at me with a look of almost sadness in his big brown eyes.
"It'll heal, I think you still look fine even if it does look like you went three rounds of hell in a cell with an angry gorilla." I said with a faint laugh.
He laughed lightly and pulled me into a hug as I went to the kitchen to make food since we never did eat because of the earlier fight. I made soup because it wasn't too hard to make.
"Claire?" He asked as we sat across from each other eating soup.
"Yeah?" I replied as I looked up from my bowl.
"If you don't mind the question, why did you start dating Alex in the first place?" Dave asked. He wanted to know something no one had ever figured out.
"Well back when I met him. He was an extremely nice guy. He treated me like I was the center of his whole world. I felt like a princess around him. However after Kurt died in 1994 things changed. He started becoming violent, his drinking increased, he started doing hard drugs. He did anything in his power to make me feel like shit or regret falling in love with him." I said exhaling a sigh as the last part left my lips.
"Wow I never knew that. Every time I met Alex in the past he always seemed like he was trying hard to act like you two had a normal relationship in public." Dave commented as he took another bite of soup.
"That's cause he was. He didn't like the fact that he couldn't tell at me or degrade me in public. He felt like I was never good enough for him. So much so to the point where I began to think it was true." I was telling Dave more about this because he was the only one that would tell. I wouldn't even tell my parents what had happened. I was just hoping that Dave beating his ass gave him a hint.
"Wow, I'm glad you came to me for help Claire. I just wish I would've known sooner." He said with a gorgeous genuine smile.
