This book is dedicated to Kim Jonghyun lead singer of SHINee who sadly passed away today. He was an incredible man who worked hard at everything he did. May he rest in peace.

Eun Mi POV:
I took my pose, as if reaching out towards something just out of range. Stylists are buzzing around me completing final checks before the platform is raised up to where everyone can see.

This is it. After all our hard work Refract has finally gained the popularity and recognition to be invited to perform at the Melon Music Awards. I take a deep breath as I begin to ascend, readying myself for the performance. The audience slowly comes into view, the platform only stopping after reaching a full 3 metres above the stage level. I am standing there motionless as a statue in the glare of the spotlight. The surrounding stage is out of sight, hidden in darkness. As the music fills the stadium I leap off the platform with a spin before beginning to dance.

Namjoon POV:
Refract was a fairly new girl group, debuting roughly two years ago, but in that time they had gained phenomenal levels of fame. Even so, I had never really paid much attention to them.  It would certainly be very interesting to see just what they were all about tonight.

"OH MY GOSH, MY HEARTU!!!!" I was snapped out of my thoughts by JHope's squealing beside me.

"I can't wait, I can't wait I finally get to see Ari dance in real life OH MY GOSH!!!"

"Aish, calm down! What's so special about Ari?" I was mildly curious, Hobi often got exited over the girl groups but he was practically passing out this time.

"Wellllll, SHE IS ONLY ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING DANCERS EVER!!" I was beginning to regret asking, his voice was getting steadily louder with each word.

A quieter voice thankfully interrupted stopping what was sure to become a rant.

"Shhh, the into is about to start." Jimin had his eyes glued to the steadily rising platform.

The stadium steadily fell quiet, only to have the silence filled with the first bars of a slow haunting song. I watched as the sole figure on stage leapt off the platform with a neat turn, landing on an impossible single leg. The slow music was joined by the voices of her band mates. She began to dance spinning and leaping across the stage, her movements reminiscent of an intricate classical ballet. It was only now that it came into view that she had ribbons tied to each of her limbs like a marionette, with each one stretching up towards the roof. The music was gaining speed and intensity, building towards an almost feverish crescendo, yet somehow she kept up with every step. It was at the peak of the the music that the first ribbon snapped. With this the dancer increased her struggle until only a single ribbon was left. The breathtaking dance continued to the final leap, breaking the remaining ribbon and freeing the marionette. As the last note sounded the marionette collapsed and was lowered back below the stage.

The stadium was left in a stunned silence in awe of the beautiful dance, it was only after a minute that the first clap rung out followed by a deafening roar.

As the noise subsided the music began again, this time a more upbeat tune. The stage was once again mostly in darkness with only a single area in the centre illuminated. A small, delicate girl rose to stage level, her long blonde hair braided into messy twin plaits. She began to sing, her powerful voice surprised, me I hadn't expected that at all based upon her cute appearance.

"That's Tuzu, she's the Maknae. Isn't she cute!" JHope whispers, aware that I knew very little about the group.

Just as he finishes speaking a second girl appears, this one is taller and has mid length dark brown hair, her voice rivals Jimin's with her high clear notes.

"She's the leader, Joohee." JHope continues.

As the build up to the chorus begins another girl steps into the light, her elaborately curled blue hair bundled on top of her head.

"Seer, she's a rapper." JHope interjects once again, though his last comment was unneeded given that she was
- believe it or not - actually rapping.

When she finishes her verse (I must say that she had impressive flow) I see the dancer from earlier along with another girl join the group. With a bass drop the chorus begins, giving way to an energetic tune. Refract snaps into formation with Ari taking the lead as the dance becomes faster and more complicated.

The chorus is really catchy and on both of my sides I can see the rest of Bangtan dancing in their seats along with me (with the exception of Hobi and Tae who had stood up and were replicating every move).

As the chorus ends they sit back down and Hoseok resumes his running commentary of the performance.

"The one with the short red hair is Mijin, she's a singer too. And the best dancer was Ari, but I have already told you that. She's so amazing though I mean DID YOU SEE THOSE MOVES!!?!"

I tune back out as he starts to fanboy over the dancing and refocus on the stage. Only to see that Ari is once again in the spotlight, yet this time the focus is not on her moves. I watch in surprise as the first syllables of a rap are emitted from her mouth. Her style is similar to Suga's, filled with emotion and her voice jumping up and down in both volume and tone. As her verse continues she gets more into it, the rap coming faster and harder until finally she falls silent, out of breath.

The song comes to and end, Refract bows and exits the stage. I can definitely see how they have become so well known, Their songs are well written and catchy, their individual voices are great and their dancing is incredible. Yet even with such a capable group one member stands out above the others.
