Eunmi's POV:
Finally it was over. Finally we would be safe. Mr Kwan would loose the company and go to jail where he couldn't hurt anyone. Honestly it's more that I could have hoped for. Yet somehow it doesn't feel right, something is off. I don't know what, but there's a sense of unease lingering, just out of sight. Even as I sit here in the club that SARAN hired, surrounded by celebration of the win I can't help but notice it. I guess that I'm just worried about the changes to come, I mean SARAN can survive for a while with an acting head but sooner or later someone is going to have to take the position for good."Unnie, are you ok?" I guess my concern must have shown. Hardly surprising honestly, I was sitting silently staring into the middle distance like a clichéd anime protagonist.
"Mm, just tired. It was a long trial." Judging by the suspicious look, Ying doesn't believe me.
"You know that you can tell me, right?" Her words surprise me, it's not often that our Maknae shows this side.
"Yeah, it's nothing really, just a weird feeling."
"It'll wear off soon. Until then get up and join in with the party! People will think we're weird if I stay here in the corner while you mope." There's the Ying that we know and love, even playfully insulting when she's comforting someone.
I let her drag me into the crowd, and onto the packed dance floor. As she starts bouncing in time to the music I marvel at how well she lives up to her stage name. Tuzu, loosely based off the pronunciation of the Mandarin word for rabbit. Pushing all thoughts out of my mind I follow her example and focus solely on the beat. The dark room illuminated only by flashing colours swallows everything. And for a while I have nothing to worry about. But it never lasts long. Every few moments the feeling comes back, tickling at the back of my mind. We continue like this for hours, I only ever manage to loose myself for a few moments at a time before it all rushes back.
The music quiets and the room fills with light, the crowd thinned out long ago, now only a handful of people are left. It's time to head back to the dorm. Guided by a vivid blue head I find the rest of Refract. Once I reach them we make our way to the mini van so that we can finally get home after all this time. When I think about it I find it so strange how we were thrown together, all strangers forced to spend every moment with each other and yet we've become such a tight group. At the start there were some fights but we all quickly learnt how to deal with everyone. Even now when we all earn enough to have our on places we still stay together. I guess that it'd be lonely living by ourselves, the comforting chaos would be gone.
The trip is over before I know it, and suddenly I'm standing outside our door. Joohee jumps forward, keys in hand and unlocks the door. Up until now I didn't realise how much I missed the place. Unfortunately I don't even have a second to reacquaint myself before I'm interrupted.
"I, for one am disappointingly sober!" Seer's loud voice cuts through the brief calm.
I have to say I agree with her though. I don't really like to drink much but this occasion certainly calls for it. PWe've never been allowed to drink outside of the dorm or very controlled occasions, it's become habit to not even ask. But I guess that that might be different now. I can add it to the long list of things that have changed. As if by magic Gyuri has managed to completely disappear in the time that I had the thought. The only clue of her location in the clink of bottles coming from the direction of the kitchen. Within seconds she reappears in the doorway.
"You coming or what?" With the invitation we finally move from the entrance and head toward the lounge. By the time we're the Ying's famous pout has become evident. I look over to Joohee, as the leader it's her decision.
"Fine, you can drink. You're almost 21 anyway... Just don't overdo it, ok?" With her response the pout dissolves into a Cheshire Cat grin. I can't help but laugh, if what happened last time she was allowed alcohol is anything to go by this will be hilarious.
With that bottle tops are popped and glasses poured. It's not long before I can feel the dull buzz that slowly but surely casts a fog over my mind. That feeling that has been bugging me all day begins to fade. Suddenly the conversation seems to much funnier, I mean how did I not appreciate Mijin's comedy genius before this? She's great!
We continue like this for hours, at some point during the night Joohee has become my pillow as she sleeps in the corner of the couch. I look around the room, everything has a slight fuzz. On the other sofa Mijin and Gyuri are performing a duet while Ying dances on the coffee table. When I see her I have to look twice, a blanket is wrapped around her head like a turban, blonde hair snaking out the bottom, one shoe has become a microphone whilst the other is still on her foot. The whole thing gives the appearance of some sort of deranged alien. I giggle at the sight as I reach for another drink. It'll be last last before I head to bed, my eyelids are drooping. I sip the beverage slowly it's only when I get to the bottom of the glass that I realise something.
I can't feel that weird sense in the back of my mind anymore.
AUTHOR'S NOTE:
So here we are, Refract is finally free. However this is no where near the end of the story (I have a feeling that this is gonna be a long one). Anyway... The good news is that I have completed the basic plot for the whole story! Bad news is I still have to write it 😂😂Question of the week:
Favourite season?Mine's Spring because the weather is still cool but everything comes into bloom and it's so pretty.
