Chapter 10 - Prepations and Welcome Surprises

Music - If the Moon Fell Down Tonight by Chase Coy

(~Evangeline's POV~)

The days leading up to the ball past quickly. After everyone had listened to my piano piece that morning, which was VERY embarrassing, we had had breakfast out of the way and started working of the girls' rooms and gotten all of the done, in the one day! Unbelievable!

Tuesday we went to the closest mall and dress-shopped with Gabriel's card. All the girls got the dresses they wanted along with shoes, tiaras - as they were now royalty - and jewellery. Izzie said that she made me a dress so I wasn't to buy one, so instead, I helped the girls pick theirs. They all looked beautiful. Phoebe and Aisling were growing into their shapes now, so the they looked like young women in their dresses and it brought a tear to my eye. Some handsome boys are going to whisk them away at the ball and they'll dance away into the night. I had taugh them all how to dance when we were in the orphanage, so they didn't need lessons... I had always known how to dance. It just came to me as easily as my music did.

So now, Friday, early afternoon, after lunch, the girls had gone back to their rooms to clean and lay out their clothes, have showers etc, and I was standing in the grand ball room - the REALLY big one - with Marita helping choose decorations and putting them up.

The ballroom itself was huge! On one end, it had a two staircases that lead from either side of which there were two doors. These two staircases met to make a sort platform and from there, there was another wider staircase; all of which were covered with thick red carpet.

The ballroom floor was white glistening marble. There was a very very VERY high ceiling with window running from the floor to the ceiling framed with white curtains that had little red gems twinkling on them.

There were three chandliers. The one in the middle was the biggest with lots of twinkling crystals attached, while the other two were slightly smaller on either side.

We had set up a long table with soft drinks and food on it - which looked delicious by the way - and a bar beside it that held alcoholic drinks and blood for the vampires. And finally in the centre at the opposite end of the room to the staircase, on a platform, was a grand piano that had been designed for me; it was silver, with the black, blue and blood red vines coming from the opposite end to the keys and twining around the legs like they were coming from the ground, blosoming from these vines were the small music notes. But now that I noticed it, with the knowledge I now have, the things that I once thought were vines, were actually knives... That would tie in with my Battle Angels for parents, I thought bluntly with a smile. At least I have something of them.

We had another platform that was for the quartet that would play the music for us and also a CD player with HUGE speakers for when the quartet needa break.

I was to perform at the start and at the end of the night for the guests. It was Marita's suggestion and I accepted hesitantly, but with a reassuring smile from Luke, I grew more confident. When I get into my own little world of music, I can't get out until the last ring of the last note has silenced. I was thinking an already composed piece for the start and then one my own for the ending.

All week I've had a melody in my head that I can't get rid of... it's strange... not what I'm used to... This melody is coupled with something else building within me... Like something is trying to get out, to burst free... I tried playing my piece on the piano; I successfully got a harmony line and left hand part as well... but half way through I come to a wall as if I can't keep going yet.

I know it'll come to me at some point. Even though I can't think of the rest of it, I know I'll be playing it as the end piece that will close the evening on a peaceful note.
