Chapter 4 - Take my hand I'll show you what I forget

Music of Inspiration - Take my Hand by The Perfect Measure

(~Lucian's POV still~)

"Cole...?" I asked him as her mysterious orbs drifted close.

"Yea?" He replied, curious at my slightly panicked tone, looking at me in the rearview mirror.

"I can't read her thoughts..." I said trailing off thinking through everything from the moment that we saw her... trying to remember whether I had heard her thoughts... but came up with nothing.

"Hmmm... Neither have I... We can make out a list of things that we've noticed since we saw her, monitor her for a while... we're going to have to keep checking the library for clues as to what exactly she is..." He said. I nodded in reply.

I thought back to when we were told, by our father, that there was a girl out in an orphange that we had watch. We weren't told why, just that, when the time was right, we were to retrieve her. We were given a file on her... but all it showed was her full name, her age, her eye colour, where she lived, school, talents and hobbies... We got regular updates on her 'progress' from Bruce. He disgusts me... I thought bitterly. Cole's eyes snapped to me in the rearview mirror as I sat with my back against the side of the van watching her sleep. He quickly looked away.

Her scent filled the whole van... I couldn't name it... it seemed to possess all things sweet, but... it had an edge to it... like the tiniest little bit of something bitter was mixed with it... I took a deep breathe, taking it in; driving me crazy, but in a different way... I'm going to have to get used to it, I thought with a sigh.

It was then that the faintest whimper escaped from her lips. My eyes snapped to her face. It looked like she was pain; her face scrunched up and she was biting her bottom lip... Her eyes snapped open and up to my face... startled, I froze. What startled me more was the almost dead look in her eyes... they were white, the black dilated pupil a huge contrast to the white ... as her eyes locked onto mine, she grasped my hand tightly, and on contact, a flow of images flew into my view... not images... but dreams... memories...?

(~Evangeline's POV (Dreams)~)

I was wearing a pure white nightdress that reached my small chubby knees, there was black designs on the dress... like vines reaching from the hem of the dress upwards.

I'd had a really weird feeling that something was wrong in the house... but just couldn't figure out what. Feeling unsettled and scared I made my way to my parents bedroom slowly, rubbing at my eye with a tight little fist and letting a yawn escape my full pink lips.

I looked down the hallway to see my parents door open... Odd, they always close it, I thought to myself.

"Mummy?... Daddy?..." I called out in my high pitched 4 year old voice. There was a shuffling noise and then my mum appeared at the door looking panicked with her hair sticking out in all directions. As soon as I saw her, I ran into her arms, hugging her tightly and inhaling her scent. It was a very sweet pure smell... but not sickly sweet.

She had sky blue eyes, long bright natural blonde hair, full pink lips covering straight white teeth with a pale complection that seemed to glow slightly... like a light underneath a thin silk sheet. She was what we would call 'perfect'. She was inhumanly beautiful, was outstandingly talented at music and had the personality of an angel.
