Chapter 14

I was woken up the next morning to Rick gently shaking me awake. I groaned before stretching out my aching body.

"Rick it's is nice to see you and all, but what are you doing here so early?" I asked slightly sitting up so I could have a better view

"Carl said you needed to talk to me last night, so I figured I'd stop by before I got to work." he simply said like it was obvious. 

"Oh yeah that" I sighed now starting to stare at the floor.

"Is everything okay with you Kennedy?" He asked looking me up and down to make sure nothing was visibly wrong with me. 

"I'm fine, it's actually about Jessie and the boys." I practically whispered

"What about them?" Rick asked unsure looking me in the eyes. I took a deep breath before continuing

"I think Pete may be abusing them." I whispered again this time a lot quieter I was almost sure Rick didn't hear me. His silence making me anxious as time went on. "Rick-

"How do you know?" he cut me off turning his head to look at me once again. 

"I-I, don't for sure, but when Jessie cut my hair awhile back I noticed a bruise on her arm. Then when I was at Carol's yesterday she had told me that Sam had hinted at potentially being abused. Also when I brought up the bruise to Ron he got all weird and quiet." I rambled, fully sitting up in my bed now.

"I want you to do me a favor." he said with a nod in my direction, I just gave a nod as confirmation that I would help out in anyway I could. "I want you to keep an eye on Ron when you talk to him next. Look for any signs on him or anything he might say they sounds off, I don't know anything really." He sighed "I'll keep a look out for Jessie and Sam, but I am going to talk to Carol first, see what Sam told her."

"Thank you Rick." I said gratefully and he just nodded before patting my head and standing up from my bed. 

"I'll talk to you later Kennedy, if I find anything out I will let you know." he said and I nodded before he officially walked out the door. I let yet another sigh I had been holding before falling back into my bed. It only took a few minutes before I was interrupted again.

"What was that about?" I heard Addison ask from the doorway. I turned my head to look in her direction not bothering to move the rest of my body.

"I think something is going on with Pete and his family, and I just wanted Rick to know."

"What do you think is happening?" she asked curiously coming into my room completely and sitting on my bed just like Rick had moments before.

"He might be abusing them, but I'm not entirely sure." I said in a rather annoyed tone feeling like this is the hundredth time I had said the exact same words in the last two days. Addison sat there soaking it in for a second before speaking

"It makes sense. That owl Jessie and Sam were working on was destroyed the other night. When I asked if she knew who did it, she said she had no idea, but she had hesitation in her voice. People around said there was yelling and then the next morning it just conveniently get trashed." she said with a sense of realization in her voice.

"Yeah it's weird." 

"Please be careful okay, I know you and Ron have been spending time together, but if this is true I prefer you not somehow end up involved." She sighed looking me dead in the eye with all seriousness. 

"Thanks Addy, but I'm fine. Ron's harmless and when we hang out its usually in front of all Alexandria."

"I think I am going to have Glenn or even Carl keep a watch out for you whenever Isaac and I can't." She said matter of factly
