Jetlag

Kayla POV:

Shawn and I made sure to sit next to each other, distant from everyone else, far in the back.

I love traveling, but I do tend to get a bit nauseous on airplanes, heights and I aren't really friends, so we often don't get along.

I could hear the boys laughing from ways away and I kind of wish I would've sat near them, maybe the laughing would've taken the nervousness away.

I continued to take deep inhales and cuddle up into Shawn's chest for the remainder of the flight.

"Mom, how could you?!"

"Your father and I weren't getting along, Kayla!"

"So instead of trying to work things out.. you have an affair?! What did dad ever do to you? Normal families work their problems out, not hook up with their bosses!"

"Kayla Marie, it is NOT a hookup. I already filed for divorce and the papers were already sent. Steve is my boyfriend and you will accept my decision and you will accept him!"

The memories I tried for so long to erase slowly started to resurface and a sickening feeling lingered through my body as I remembered all the horrid things my mother's bos-boyfriend, had said and done to her. Her and my father did argue quite a bit, but he never laid a finger on her or called her the awful names that her so-called "boyfriend" did.

She would never admit to it, but I saw the bruises, I heard the cries late at night when she thought I was sleeping. I tried many times calling in to report him, but without her confession and/or evidence, the case was going no where. My mother was scared and hurt, he was the only one she believed cared for her in the way she wanted.

Beating someone wasn't love. My mom started out so strong, but when she began drinking she got addicted and then her and my fathers fall out was the last straw.

I woke up sweating from the terrible dream and when I woke up I heard the flight attendant come on the loud speaker, "We are five minutes away, please get into your seats and fasten your seatbelts!"
