the infamous new years party that luke's brother, jack, hosted every year was something their whole family looked forward to. it was the final hoorah of that year and jack always seemed to make it amazing. however, this year, luke and michael had a baby. and not just a random baby, no they had a girl. luke was stressed enough as it is, and now he was trying to figure out a way to either say no to the party or have michael say no.
'mikey, we both can't go and leave her here. and if i don't go then it's almost disrespectful to my family who looks forward to it' michael just shook his head, not really caring how the rest of the night went. he looked over at ella, who was playing on the floor. he was honestly hoping that both he and luke would just stay home to enjoy ella's first new years.
'mikey..' luke felt so stressed all of a sudden, he wasn't sure how this was going to play out. michael could sense his stress and pulled him in for a hug, telling him that everything was going to be ok. luke just sighed, deciding that he would deal with it later.
hearing the talking, ella stood up from where she was playing, smiling when seeing both luke and michael on the couch. she went and stood in front of them, grinning up at the both of them.
'cuddles!' she yelled before jumping into luke's lap, snuggling her face into his chest. luke hugged her tightly, kissing the top of her head while michael wrapped his arms around both of his babies. luke rested his head on michael's arm, allowing himself to slowly relax from the stress he had just endured.

new years came and luke was dressing himself up for the party. both he and michael had decided that it was best if luke went, only because it was luke's family and if michael didn't go it might be easier to explain. michael wasn't exactly ecstatic about this decision, but he just went along with it to make sure luke was less stressed.
'alright, i'm gonna leave early this year,' luke always said this, 'and please, make sure she's in bed early because she gets cranky, oh and she -'
'luke i get it, i literally live here and take care of her too' michael sassed and walked away. luke furrowed his eyebrows, following michael.
'hey, what's going on, and don't say nothing' michael groaned and turned to face his fiance (I KEEP FORGETTING WHAT THEY ARE). luke got nervous.
'you're- you're the good parent and everything you do is right and whatever i try to do is wrong but god forbid you're wrong, no everything you do is right!' michael yelled, throwing his arms up in the air. luke took a deep breath.
luke hated fighting, and he managed to have enough patience that he and michael had never really gotten into a fight before. luke would always wait for michael to calm down and let out anything he was feeling before he started talking.
'mikey, i'm sorry i made you feel this way. i just, ella's special to me' michael shook his head.
'she's not just your kid, luke' luke agreed, knowing that he had recently been cautious with ella around michael and that it wasn't right.
'i'm sorry, mikey. i'm just scared' michael hadn't made eye contact with luke so when he looked up and saw luke's sad and guilty eyes, his whole tough attitude melted away into a more protective and loving persona.
'c'mere' luke walked into his arms, his anxiety taking over as he shook, he knew michael was mad at him only seconds ago and he was scared, but he also knew in that moment that michael had fallen in love with the one thing neither of them was supposed to fall in love with.
