Yael and Abby had appointments with Dr. Fleet this morning. While the two of them were back in the examination rooms, Steph and Sam talked in the waiting room.

Steph: I don't know if I should be pacing or looking to grab a smoke outside.

Sam socked her goalkeeper in the arm. "You shouldn't be nervous. You know she's pregnant and how far along she is. We don't know yet if the first attempt took or whether we'll have to try again today to get pregnant. If I haven't said it before, I really look up to you and Yael, both for how you've come to find love with each other and in how you've been so supportive of her since finding out she was expecting."

Steph: Thank you, Sam. We've both wanted kids for a long time and it affected our previous relationships and how we felt about ourselves. Yeah, we didn't expect to get together and then find out that she was pregnant from an encounter with Aaron that happened before we were a couple of sorts. I never thought about walking away because I loved her and I wanted her. With her entering the third trimester now, the excitement of having a daughter on the way is almost palpable. I know she's worried about her mood issues after Anson and Christie's deaths and how the medication is affecting her and/or Deborah, which is why we moved this appointment up a week, to get a better grasp on what we might be facing over the next three months and whether there might be some PPD that could happen after delivery. What's the timeline if, say, you find out that the procedure took?

Sam: We come back in four weeks for confirmation. If the little ball of love is still there, then we'll get a due date and officially be pregnant. When is Deborah due?

Steph: November 27th, so after World Cup qualifying. Based on that, Yael's last flight will be for your wedding. I'll get to come back here for about a week and then be off to Tiajuana for camp.

Sam: Same with us and San Diego. We haven't figured out what the plan is for Kristie and Steph to come back to Boston after the wedding. Guess that depends on how far into the playoffs Chicago goes.

Steph: At least we know we're in and at worst hosting the East semifinal. Sure want that 1 seed so we don't have to play an extra match and then go on the road like the Breakers did last year.

Sam: We need, what, one point from the last three matches to lock up the top seed. That could be done on Saturday in Kansas City. Also, if we win, we'll clinch the Supporters' Shield as regular season champions.

Steph: Guessing John will want to go with me to take care of all of that, then give EJ the game against the Spirit and maybe the one against Houston as well.

Sara came out to the lobby and asked Steph and Sam to come back with her. Steph joined Yael in her room while Sam followed the doctor down to Abby's.

Sara Fleet: Sam, have a seat. I have some good news. The procedure took. So now we wait to see if it sticks, which will be known at your next appointment. Therefore, there is no need to do a second implantation today.

Sam got a text message on her phone from her sister-in-law, congratulating her and Abby for being called-up for the US/Canada friendlies. She popped a quick text back to her and closed up her phone.

Sam: What is the date of our next appointment?

Sara: Four weeks from now would be September 26th.

Sam looked at Abby. "Ugh. We're going to have to move that back a few days."

Abby: Why's that?

Sam: That text was from Hoodrat. The two of us have been called up for the matches against Canada the 24th and 27th of September.

Sara: Congrats! When will you be back in town, then?
