Kristie called Sam to find out how things went at her and Abby's appointment with Dr. Fleet. After being told that things were on course to having an answer after the Canada friendlies, the conversation turned to the upcoming weekend's matches.
Kristie: We're playing early on Saturday due to a holiday doubleheader with the Fire. Kickoff for our match is at 1pm and Steph and I are planning on coming to Kansas City to see you and Abby play and have some sister time, the four of us, for a day or two before the wedding. Maybe do your bachelorette party while we're down there.
Sam: You'll probably need to find someone local to help you plan that.
Kristie: Remember, I played in KC for a season so I remember some of what was there. Just need to dig back in my archives and I can probaby come up with a thing or two we can do.
Sam: Looks like an easy win for you this weekend against the Spirit. Any chance Lisa might rest some of you for the match against Portland next week?
Kristie: I'm not expecting it since we're still being chased by Vancouver to host the semifinal. Is John planning to give the younger players some run once you have the 1 seed locked up?
Sam: I think so. The injury battle we're facing on the front line means we should consider mixing up our scheme in order to protect the forwards we have. EJ should get one of the last two games if only to give her a bit of work in case something happens to Steph either on Saturday or in one of the friendlies against the US.
Kristie: I'm also calling to get a bit of assistance from you or Abby. Alyssa is going to be coming with us because, well, she wants to surprise Julie. Do you know if her parents are coming from St. Louis for the game since it's your only trip to the Midwest this season unless you make the final?
Sam: Either Abby or I will talk to her at training tomorrow and find out. Why are you asking?
Kristie: Our flight from Chicago won't get into Kansas City until 6:40 or so on Saturday and your game is at 7 if I remember correctly. We're going to need someone to be able to grab us at the airport and get us to the stadium since going through the rental car rigamarole won't allow us to get to Children's Mercy Park until close to halftime.
Sam: So your captain maybe has a bit of a thing for our captain?
Kristie: She asked Steph for dating advice on the way back from Minneapolis after the second match against Norway and mentioned looking for someone closer to home that she could settle down with after her career ends, which she hinted would probably be after the 2024 season.
Sam: Both of them were here in Boston with you, right?
Kristie: Yes. They're cute together, I think. Alyssa the stable, reassuring presence who is adorable like a teddy bear and Julie bringing a bit of tempered fire to the relationship and willing to step out and drive things if you will.
Sam: Which is honestly how that needs to go. I'll do what I can to help plant the thought in her head. If she's looking to surprise her, we're going to need to do some work in order to set this up with the three of you.
Kristie: Steph will take care of the dirty work since she has the savvy to troll the Internet to find contact information for them. I know Alyssa is thinking of possibly asking her to be her +1 for your wedding.
Sam: I should get to bed. Long day with the doctor's appointment and us doing some early scouting of things for the nursery. Love you, Kratch, and give my regards to your wife.
Kristie: Love you too, Sammy, and let Abae know I'm getting excited about becoming an aunt.
Sammy hung up and filled Abby in on what her and Kristie discussed. The two of them turned in, where they'd talk over a plan to help get Julie and Alyssa together.
