Chapter Twenty-Seven: Prom
I walked down the stairs as the doorbell rang. A slightly confused expression crossed my face as I couldn't help but wonder who it was visiting the house at that time. My fathers figure appeared as the sound echoed once again.
"Dad, who is it?" I asked, hoping that he would know.
"I'm betting Jasper." My father all but grumbled out still not too pleased with that family except for Carlisle. "You said he was picking you up tonight." He reminded me.
I nodded in agreement, trying to look over my father's shoulder to know if it was really the golden eye vampire or not. I couldn't think of anyone else coming to visit on that night as they would be either too busy getting ready or already heading in the direction of the dance. Including my sister and Edward.
"What can I do for you," I flinched at my fathers freezing cold tone, hoping it that it really wasn't Jasper. "Tyler."
Tyler? What was he doing here?
"I'm, uh, here to get, um, Bella, Chief." Tylers very unwelcomed voice came.
A smirk formed on my face. "Sorry, Ty, but my sisters busy at the moment. What with avoiding those that tried to kill her and everything." I said in a sweet voice, ignoring the look that my father gave me.
A strange look crossed the Tylers face. "You still haven't forgiven me." He pointed out.
"And it won't happen for a very long ti,e." I answered, shrugging my shoulders. "Now you should hurry up and go before my date arrives and gets the wrong idea."
"Who are you going with? Mike?" He asked, his tone implying something that I didn't like.
Narrowing my eyes at him my father stepped in between us. "Alright, you two that's enough. Tyler both my daughters are busy tonight. If you have no other reason to be here I would suggest leaving." Looks like someone angered the police chief.
"But Bella had agreed to go to prom with me." Tyler once again tried.
I opened my mouth once more to respond before a cool but familiar voice did. "Good evening, Chief Swan, Renee." Jasper called out as he walked under the porch light. "Tyler, I didn't expect to see you here."
Amusement passed through me. "He was just about to leave." I answered, holding in the laugh that wanted to escape. "Of course not before he talked to my lovely sister over the phone."
Reaching into the purse as an amused look appeared on Jaspers face I dialed a number that I grew to slowly know. The phone rang a few times before someone answered it with a wary voice.
Can't read my mind know can you, Edward. I thought before shaking my head.
"Yo, Eddie, my man." I greeted, getting a surprised look on Tyler's face. "So there's this issue right in front of my house thats not leaving. Rather than having Bella fail at explaining what is going on I think you shall."
"Issue?" Edward asked.
I chuckled. "Tylers standing in front of me and my pa, waiting to take my sweet sister to prom." I replied, receiving an amused chuckle.
"You're kidding."
"I wish I was buddy. So what do you say?"
"Very well, I'll talk to him and see what I can to straighten this whole thing out." Nodding I quickly handed Tyler my phone while waving Jasper inside the house.
Leaving Charlie to deal with the possible upset Tyler I lead the golden eye vampire into the living room. "What's Edward saying?" I asked, still finding this whole thing amusing.
Jasper chuckled before he answered me. "Explaining to Tyler that Bella will never be available again."
Oh, how wonderful it must be to think that such things could be true.
"You look handsome tonight, Mr. Hale." I finally said, taking his his black tuxedo. "Very much more than I would have thought."
"Why thank you Miss. Swan. You are looking very beautiful as well." I laughed, feeling as my stomach once again twisted into knots. "You really do."
"Thanks for being my last minute date to Prom." I mumbled, feeling as my face turned red. "Through I'm sure Alice saw it coming or something. I swear if I didn't know any better she was trying to make something happen between the two of us."
Different conclusions passed through my mind as I said that. It sure did seem like Alice wanted something to happen between me and Jasper as more time passed but I couldn't see why that would be. Unlike my sister, I was fine being friends with a vampire and nothing more.
It wasn't like I was going to fall inlove again.
"Actually, you had caught her by surprise." Jasper chuckled as he turned slightly. "She had seen you going with Mike in the beginning but something must of happened to change that."
My nose scrunched up at that. "Why in all the bloody heavens would I go with Mike?" I couldn't help but ask before shaking my head. "That's beside the point. Charlie wanted pictures before we left."
"If I remember correctly, kiddo, it was you who demanded I make the two of you get a picture together." My father said as he walked into the living room. "You girls are killing me you know. I have a feeling that Tyler's dad is going to call me tonight."
"He might not." I disagreed. "Tyler's a big boy. If he can't handle the word no than he won't be making it in life."
My father raised an eyebrow at me. "When did you become so knowledgeable." He quizzed.
"I've always been knowledgeable." I mumbled.
"Oh really so is that-"
"Alrighty then, no home pictures got it. Let's hurry up and go." I cut in quickly, grabbing Jaspers hand before pulling him with me. "Don't stay up to late, Father. Wouldn't want you passing out on the couch again."
---- Dances are for those that love to interact not for those that hang in the back. -----
Jasper had his arm wrapped around my shoulder as we walked into the school. As we entered I noticed that they had finished the balloon arches and wall decorations. I felt amused, finding a small school dance to be much more amusing than what a bigger school would've been.
Looking at the dance floor, I scanned over the groups of different dancing people while looking for my sister or one of Jaspers family members. My eyes landed first on Alice as she stood laughing at something Emmett said, shining in her black satin dress while the male wore a classic tuxedo. Rosalie stood to the side with a scowl on her face, while wearing a scarlet backless dress, tight to her calves where it flared into a wide ruffled train.
Finally, I spotted Edward dancing with Bella, well I couldn't really call it dancing as she seemed to have no balance with one leg in a cast. But I gave her credit for trying even though I had a feeling that she wasn't happy about being tricked into coming.
We slowly made our way towards them my eyes continued spotting the people that I came to know better as I lived in Forks. Jessica stood chanting animatedly with Lauren while Mike appeared to be getting some punch. Angela and Ben were slow dancing, ignoring those around the two of them.
A faint smile appeared on my face. I had a feeling that everything was going to end beautiful that night. That we had no worries, no more fears.
At that moment I realized just what it was like to truly be Human.
