Chapter 24: Better Off Without Me

It was still snowing in Hasetsu, you didn't know when it would ever stop...and you hoped that it would never end.
The small town looked even more beautiful with the crystal, white snow that covered the cherry blossom trees and the pavement streets, not to forget the boardwalk that was close to the sandy beaches that were now snowy.
As you walked towards your final destination, you looked up at the skies and saw bright stars shining above you.
The sight was just beautiful and magical...
You felt like you were in a different place.
You then finally made it to your destination...an abandoned home with a small shrine right on the front porch.
You sadly smiled as you approached the small handmade shrine that you made for your parents right after their death...
Being at this place right now, you felt like your 5-year-old self again, only this time, you were brave.
You rest on both your knees and took off your green beret. You then clap your hands two times, saying words to your parents who lived in the heavens.

"Dear Mother and Father...
I have did it, I have finally found the person who ruined our lives a long time ago and put them behind bars...
I hope you two saw...sorry it took me so many years, it was just hard to search for them and I had to finish my training after all...I...I love you two..."

You sniffle and rub your runny nose, trying to control your emotions.
You shake your head.

Be strong (Y/n)...be strong...

...Your soft side came back however, causing you to sob right there in front of the shrine.
You wanted to see your parents again, you wanted to make them watch you ice skate again, you wanted to see them proud of your accomplishments throughout your life...
But unfortunately, they were gone.
You felt someone's hand on your shoulder, it made you jump.
You quickly pin them to the ground, only to find out it was Yuri Katsuki.
He blushed as he held your arms.

"(Y-Y/n)? Are you okay? You're...you're crying! Why are you crying? Please don't cry, I'm right here!"

He then hugs you, rubbing his cheek on yours as you felt warmth surround you again.
He then notices the shrine, along with the picture of you and your parents.
He lowers his brown eyes, taking off his beanie.

"Oh...did I interrupt you?"

"No, I was just about to leave..."

"Oh...s-sorry (Y/n), I'm sorry I followed you again...I was just worried about you, you know? I was just making sure you were safe..."

Where have you heard this before?
You then remember when you first came to Hasetsu and Yuri followed you to the Ice Castle, where you showed off your ice skating skills.
You were angry with him, but now...
Hearing him say that made you feel happy.
You kiss his cheek, earning a red face from him.

"I understand Yuri...listen, I need to talk to you about something...it's been bothering me for awhile now"

"Huh? W-what is it, (Y/n)?"

Yuri asked as he took a seat next to you on the porch as you two watched the snow continue to fall.
You sighed, then rub your neck.

"...I think it's best if you're better off without me"

"W...What?"

Yuri's eyes widened at your sudden words, his blush now disappearing.
He realized you were serious by the way you were avoiding eye contact with him. He tries holding your hand but you took it away, shaking your head.

"I caused you to be in a dangerous situation...you almost lost your innocence and your life because of me...I'm dangerous, Yuri...I don't want you to go through that again"

"B-B-But Yurio saved us back there! I'm fine! See!"

"That's not the point Yuri...what would happen if he wasn't there...?
I would've lost you...your family would've lost you...all because of me. That's why..."

You then took off the gold ring and place it in the palm of his hand, avoiding his stare.

"That's why you should just stay away from me...I'm too dangerous for you. I'm going to go back to the military and-"

"No"

You then look up at him, surprised at his sudden change in mood.
He stares at you hard, his face serious.

"Yuri-"

"No, I don't want you to leave...I don't want you to leave again!"

He hugs you out of nowhere, causing you to stiffen.
You pat his back.

"Yuri-"

"I lost you once, I'm not going to lose you again! (Y/n), I want to be with you forever! I don't want to you to do something that I know you'll regret later on! I want to ice skate with you at Ice Castle again! I want to spend every single day with you again! I want to see you smile again!
I don't care if you're dangerous or not, I still love you!
I rather die than lose you...so please (Y/n), don't leave again, don't leave your home again..."

Home...?

The word repeats in your head as you held him tightly to your chest.
You then look down at him, the boy who was now clinging onto you.

Home...

You gently grab his face, a soft smile appearing on your face as you place a kiss on his lips.
He kisses back as he caresses your face, blushing.
As you two pulled away, you softly chuckle as you fixed the glasses on his face.
You then place the ring back on your finger and hold out your hand.

"Yuri...let's go home"
