Matthew finished his 1st shift of the day as guard.

He rushed home that day in hopes that Ashlen would be there. He got to the apartment and saw Ashlen in there reading a copy of Harry Potter.

"Hey Ashlen. One I need to talk to you and two where did you get that?" he said.

"Hey Matthew. What about and they have books left over from the library and this was in there. Also why are you out of breath? Did something happen?'' she asked slightly concerned.

"No. Is Steph here?"

"No she just left for the shop. She won't be back until this afternoon. Why?''

"Because that's what I wanted to talk to you about." he said sitting on the opposite side of the couch from her.

"Okay shoot." she said facing him.

"You might think I'm crazy, but I'm going to ask Stephanie to marry me."

"WAIT WHAT!!?!!" she exclaimed putting her hands to her mouth.

"SHHH. Keep your voice down." he said trying to hush her.

"Are you serious?"

"Yes. If this past year has taught me anything. It's that I got to make the most out of life while I still can."

"But how are you going to do it?"

"What propose?"

"Well that and get married. There isn't wedding stuff anymore.''

"Will figure it out. I have thought of it. But if I die, One of the things I want to be remembered as is Stephanie's husband." Ashlen paused for moment.

"Okay. How do you want to do it?" she asked.

"I don't know. That's why I came to you. I don't know how I should do it."

"Well normally I would suggest doing it by your favorite spot together, the place where you first met or kissed, a nice dinner, on your anniversary, you know the normal things people do. But we are in the apocalypse, so that won't happen. I mean can you even get a ring?"

"No. I just want her to know how much I love her and that I don't care if we are in the apocalypse. I want her to be my wife." They sat there for a little while longer trying to figure out how to do it.

"I got it!" said Ashlen. Matthew looked up at her.

"We always take walks together during the sunset. Why don't you two go on the walk together and propose at sunset. Walk her down to a private area by the bay and propose. I'm sure she'll love it."

"But what about you? She'll think it's suspicious that you won't come."

"I'll go and hang out with Payton and Joanna. I'll tell Payton and he'll be in on it. Trust me this will work."

"Okay. That would work." he said. Then Matthew started running his hand through his hair.

"You okay?"

"I'm just nervous. Like every guy is before he asks his girlfriend the big question."

"She'll say yes. It's not like she has many options."

"Hey!" said Matthew while giving her a playful shove making her laugh.

"But all joking aside, back in the old times before this all happened this would be out of the question. You would be thought of as crazy, to say the least if you proposed to your girlfriend that you've dated for less than a year. Not to mention while you're still underclassmen in college. But this is the apocalypse so I say go for it. Because you might not get this chance again." said Ashlen.
