Matthew and Steph were working a shift together doing guard duty.

Since Steph worked during the weekdays she did her guard shifts during the weekends. Matthew would sometimes work extra on the weekend so they could spend time together. Usually one was working guard while the other spent time with the baby. Once her maternity leave was up Steph would place Bradley in his sling and take him to work with her. However ,she would leave him with Matt or Ashlen when she did guard because neither she nor Matt wanted the baby around loud gunshots. But today Matt and Steph both decided to take on the same shift for guard so Ashlen watched the baby. Matthew looked out over the edge of the balcony. He looked at all of the decaying buildings and old, smashed up cars.

"Is it hard to belive we use to live out there?" he asked Stephanie. Still looking over the balcony.

"Yeah. Just like its hard to believe the world wasn't always like this. How often do you think about our old lives?" she asked him joining him as the looked out over the balcony together.

"Just about everyday. What do you think we would be doing with our lives right now?" 

"Well for sure we wouldn't be married with kids. We would both be just about done with college. I think we still would've gotten together. It just would've taken longer." she said. 

"I think we would've gotten together too." he said. He wrapped his arms around her waist and faced her towards him.

"Hey careful. We can't get all PDA while we're up here." said Stephanie giggling.

"I don't care." he said. He pressed his forehead against hers. She put her hands on his chest.

"Matthew."

"Yes darling." 

"You're such a dork."

"And you love me for it." Steph rolled her eyes. Then they both closed their eyes and were a hair length away from kissing each other when a noise startled them. They both jumped away from each other thinking James spotted them. However, he wasn't anywhere in site. Infact no one else was in their area. Steph looked out over the balcony and saw a group of people who knocked over something. Presumably accidentally. 

"Matthew. Look.'' she said nodding her head in their direction. Matthew saw them too. Then the group started walking towards them.

"Come on let's go alert the others." said Matthew. And they both snuck away.

As the group approached everyone stood in position waiting for the right moment.

Then it came and they all rose up instantly.

"HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!" yelled Dan. The group stopped dead in their tracks. "PUT YOUR WEAPONS DOWN AND YOUR HANDS UP!" yelled Dan again.

"Please we don't want trouble. One of our members ate something poisonous and they need serious medical help." said what was presumed the leader of the group. He was tall and had blond hair.

"Who are you?" asked Matt.

"My name is Jason. And this is my wife Gen. We're the leaders of this group." The group had about 9 people in it.

"Who are the rest of you?" asked Matt.

"Just another couple named Lily and Archie. He's the one thats sick. A teacher named Claire and her two students names Crystal and Grace. And lastly a brother and sister." Just as he said that Stephanie made eye contact with what was presumed the sister. Or who she knew was the sister. Both girls froze and looked at each other stunned.
