Chapter 1

I woke up to my dog, Codie, licking my face.

"Seriously?" I complained and pushed him off me.

The big collie trotted out of my room and down the hall. I wiped the dog slobber of my face and got up. I walked across the hall into the bathroom. Looking in the mirror, I sighed at my reflection. My hazel eyes really matched with my hair, which wasn't a good thing. I sighed, and brushed my brown hair and walked out of the bathroom and headed downstairs.

"Hey, honey, I made your favorite!" Mom greeted me warmly. She set a plate of pancakes down on the wooden table.

"Thanks," I said coldly. Mornings weren't my favorite thing in the world. I sat down and grabbed three pancakes. I poured syrup all over them and started to eat.

"Today is a big day!" Mom said cheerfully. I glared at my mother. Her being so happy in the morning drove me nuts! That woman was always in a good mood.

She ignored my glare, "we're going on a cruise!"

I was very non-excited by moms announcement. I've been on boats before, and I always got sea.

"Come on Autumn, I know you don't like boats. But, we need a vacation!" Mom tried to make me excited to be going, but I wasn't.

"You can go swimming, play table tennis, try surfing-" Mom rambled on, cleaning the kitchen as she did.

I ignored her and continued to munch on my pancakes. I couldn't take it anymore.

Running upstairs, I slammed the door behind me. I flopped down on my bed face first and let out a sigh frustration. Why do I have to go on this cruise anyways? She knows how I feel about water. She understands.

I got off my bed and tried to get ready for my last day of school. I rummaged threw my closet trying to find the perfect clothes. Slipping on some jeans and a purple blouse, I went to the bathroom. I started my morning routine, which included brushing my teeth and hair, applying mascara and eyeshadow, and a layer of foundation.

I heard barking and yelling. Groaning, I left the bathroom and down the stairs. Codie greeted me when I entered the kitchen.

Codie came and jumped up at me. I laughed and pushed my off me.

"Here is some money." Mom said, handing me a twenty.

"Thanks." I hugged her and grabbed my school bag.

I slipped on my shoes and I was out the door. I walked down the street and turned left. My high school came into view. Or as I say, the hell hole came into view. I walked up on campus and saw my best friend, Abby, came into view. I giggled at her short dark brown hair bobbing up and down as she walked. Abby was wearing a light blue sweater and a pair of dark skinny jeans.

"Hey," Abby said when she approached me.

"Hi." answered blandly.

"What's wrong?" She asked. I sighed pulling at my strap on my backpack.

"Mom is dragging me on a cruise for 3 weeks." I said. Abby laughed at my expression

"I would love that!" She exclaimed.

I sighed, "First of all, you know why I hate water. Second of all, what is Codie going to do?"

"Well, he could stay with me, but my dad is allergic." She shrugged, and started up the path towards hells gates.
