Mia's POV
Shocked was an underestimate of how I was feeling. How the hell did the viper and his crew get a lead on me? Did Bullseye tattle? I don't think he would go against his own team and something he's worked so hard on, but then again I don't know the truth about anything any more.
We drove all night, taking every single turn we could to make the path as complex as possible. I have absolutely no idea where we are now but I do know it's not where we are supposed to be. Currently we were parked in the middle of nowhere, as we traveled off road for a while. The sun was just starting to come up.
I sat on the hood of the car with my gun, ready for anyone or anything that may come our way. Shawn was sprawled out in the backseat, sleeping. Earlier when I checked up on him his mouth was split and he looked completely knocked, which made me laugh. I feel bad for him, I really do. I never wanted him to be involved in all this, this crazy thing I call my life. Especially didn't want him to be involved in a car chase on our first day, but it is what it is.
I couldn't take my mind off Riley, not even in all the chaos. What if she has a nightmare and I'm not there to tell her it's ok like I usually do? What if the viper finds her too? She can't just drive away. She is just a fragile little bean I can no longer protect.
Out of the corner of my eye I could see movement, which startled me. I swung my whole body and gun around to see what it was, and it was just shawn getting out of the car.
"Aye! Relax it's just me!" He stretched his arms. His hair was tousled every which way and one eye was squinted as he adjusted to the light. The whole look made me smile unknowingly.
"Good morning princess!" I giggled at him.
"Have you been up all night? You were sitting here when I went to sleep."
"Just about."
"Well I'll be damned."
I merely laughed at his amazement. "One fun fact about me; I never sleep."
We both climbed into the Jeep and slammed the doors.
"Where too?" He asked me.
"I say breakfast. I'm starving."
"Well then let's drive until we find a food place." He started the engine.
"Floor it, princess!" I giggled at my own joke.
He smirked at me and then we were off.

After about an hour or two or driving in total nothing-ness, we finally came to a small town called Amargosa Valley in Nevada. The place was pretty bare and looked like a ghost town, but we found a few locals.
Mr. and Mrs. Nelson were an elderly couple that seamed very nice. They owned a little restaurant called Nelson's dinner and were very excited to have us.
"What would you like to have?" The wife took our order.
"I'll have the hash brown bowl and she will have the scrambled eggs with a side of bacon," Shawn ordered for me. I was going to, but he insisted. Said it was "gentlemen like." He always kept me on my toes.
Mrs. Nelson went into the back to put our orders in.
"So what's the plan after this?" I ask, unwrapping my silverware from the napkin so I can play with them
"Just keep driving I suppose," he shrugged. "Have you heard any word from your... friend about where your boss and his entourage are?"
"Damon is his name. And no, not since he first called," I examined my fork.
"Who is he any way? I mean if you are okay with telling me," he said the last part quickly, as if I might get offended by what he asked. He was afraid of me, it made me chuckle on the inside.
"A friend. My only friend really. He was always at the bar; his dad worked there but we don't talk about him.
Not since what he did to me. He's pretty much dead to us," I whispered, thinking of the hell Damon's dad has put me through, especially Damon. "We bonded pretty quickly over the fact that we didn't want to be there and our parents sucked."
I couldn't help but smile when I thought of our memories. Damon helped make things at the bar somewhat manageable, and I don't think I ever got to thank him for that.
"When we were like 15 we had a thing but it only lasted a few months. This might be TMI, but it ended because we hooked up. Halfway through he started crying, and then he told me he was gay." I made a face as to say isn't that something.
Shawn's eyebrows raised and he laughed. "Were you that bad?"
I reached across the table and hit his shoulder. "Shut up."
We laughed hysterically for a solid five minutes, and then our food came out.

We were paying Mr. Nelson at the counter.
"Thank you so much for your hospitality and great food." Shawn said. He was such a nerd.
"Oh it was our pleasure! Alright this is all, here is your receipt." He ripped a thin sheet off the machine and handed it to Shawn. "And hey, don't go too crazy in Vegas." He winked at us.
"What?" I tilted my head at him.
"Oh, well usually we get couples stopping in on their way into Las Vegas and I figured you two were no different." He smiled at us.
"Uhm we aren't a couple, and we aren't going to Vegas," I laughed lightly. Shawn gave me a look I can't quite describe. "How far is it though?"
"Well it's only about an hour on the main road." Mr. Nelson pointed up road.
"Good to know. Thank you again." Shawn said before we turned on our heal and walked out.
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" He asked.
"Viva los Vegas, baby."
