"No, please! You don't understand! They won't be coming here! They're trying to stop you so it'll be pointless to hold me hostage like this!" It was Brendan pleading to Maxie. He was going to use Brendan to lure (y/n) to him and he still would. It was what Lisia was trying to stop.

Yes, it had been her desire to get rid of (y/n) so that she could have Brendan all to herself but she had never meant to actually endanger Brendan's life. They were still in Team Magma's base. Lisia had told Maxie where they would be going so that he could capture (y/n) when they got there. Lisia had even offered for him to take May as ransom if they didn't get (y/n), but not Brendan.

Maxie had failed to get May or (y/n) so he had taken Brendan instead and Lisia was not allowed to see him so she decided to get help from the girl that Maxie had warned her about. Her name was Zinnia and she wanted to use (y/n) too.

Lisia found Zinnia and gave her a heads up to where (y/n) would be and it had ended badly. Zinnia and Maxie learned of Lisia's wish for (y/n) to vanish. They also found out that she was a "double agent". That was why Brendan hadn't been let go.

Lisia was to be put in charge of stalling (y/n) when she came for him so that she could be captured. Now she was secretly listening in on Maxie as he explained to Brendan what he was going to do with him. If she could just find out, she could warn May, that boy named Gladion, or even (y/n) if she had to.

"You seem not to understand why you are in this situation, boy," Maxie said not seeming to care about Brendan's pleas.

"No, I do understand! You're a good person at the heart. You just want to make the world a better place, right? But y-you can do that without (y/n)'s help. Y-you'll have Groudon so there's no need for her which means that you don't need me. Please, j-just let me go!" Brendan was pleading.

Lisia was on the verge of tears as she peeked in through the small crack that she made in the door. Maxie walked closer to were Brendan was chained.

"How old are you, boy?" Maxie asked. It didn't make since to Lisia why he had asked such a question but she listened regardless. "I'm...I'm eighteen," Brendan answered. He calmed down a bit thinking that Maxie was considering letting him go.

"Do you have a family? Anyone that means anything to you?" Maxie asked. Brendan nodded vigorously.

"Y-yes, I have a father but my mother's n-not around anymore and...and then there's...her but that means I have someone to return to, so you've got to let me go, please," Brendan said. Maxie shook his head.

"I only asked so that I could send my condolences to them. If your friends don't show up with (y/n), then I'm afraid you won't be getting out of this. That girl is needed so that I can actually control Groudon. I have reason to believe that she has that capability. Once I send a message that you're in danger, then they'll rush to help you and I do hope for your sake that they aren't too late," Maxie said as he patted Brendan on the head like he was some pokémon. Brendan finally snapped. Tears silently rolled down his face and he stared at Maxie with nothing but fear.

"No...please don't kill me. I have...too much to live for. I didn't tell her yet...I didn't tell her. No, no...can't you see...you're becoming...a murderer. I don't want to die. I didn't tell her...I don't want to die," Brendan ranted on. He wasn't talking to Maxie but he wasn't talking to himself either. It was like he was voicing his thoughts uncontrollably.

"Be quiet child. I am going to do what I must to suceed. If it means killing a random person, so be it. I've had it with people trying to get in my way," Maxie said. Brendan did not stay silent.

He cried louder closing his eyes and louder he said, "I don't want...to die! You have to let me go....let me go home...let me see my father...let me see her again...let me tell her. I don't want to die...I haven't...lived yet!" he said as he began to pull on the chains. His wrist were already damaged enough and it wasn't long before they began to bleed.

"I said to be quiet, child. I'm warning you," Maxie said. Brendan did not stay quiet. Instead he kept ranting.

"Let me go! Let me...go! I don't want to die!" he cried even louder. It was too late for Lisia to do anything. They were on the submarine that she had fixed for him. She wasn't all beauty. There were a little bit of wits about her. She wanted to look away but found that she couldn't. She couldn't tear her eyes away from Brendan's suffering.

"If you keep up this nonsense, I will kill you before she arrives!" Maxie threatened. It only made Brendan's sobbing worse. He began hyperventilating and his breaths for air became more desperate. Then he started to rant again. "No...don't hurt me. No...don't kill me. No, no...no...NO!" He screamed the last "no" and Maxie slapped him, hard.

Brendan's eyes flung open, his pupils dialated far too much. He temporarily stopped breathing on his own and when he did breathe again, it was hardly noticeable. He stopped pulling against the chains. He let his body fall limp. He had given up.

"May, Lisia, Norman, Wallace, Wally, Steven, Dad, Mom, my pokémon, Gladion, and (y/n). Thank you. Thank you all...for giving me a good life..." he nearly whispered. Lisia saw him smile a little as he closed his eyes, letting more tears fall.

"You can do whatever you want with me, Maxie. I don't care anymore. As long as my friends are safe. Especially the one I love," Brendan said softly.

"So, he does...love me," Lisia thought. Despite the situation, Lisia couldn't help but feel a little joy upon thinkung such.

"But even after all of this?" Maxie questioned. Brendan looked up at Maxie and gave him a closed eyed smile and Maxie slapped him. Again. Lisia could tell that even Maxie didn't know why he did it a second time.

"Courtney!" he yelled. "Go set the timer!" Maxie had officially lost it.

Lisia ran. She ran in the direction of the submarine door. They were already in the carvern that Groudon and Kyogre supposedly resided in so she couldn't get a message to anyone except Team Aqua. She had a feeling they were here too. The submarine that Team Magma had stolen was quite large. It was nearly half the size of their hideout so it took her a while to get to the exit.

She wasn't stopped by anyone since they thought of her as part of the team. Just someone there to help them take over the world. She rushed out of the submarine just in time to see several small Team Aqua submarines float to the surface. They were already there.

I don't know if you guys noticed...but I may or may not have really twisted the characters' personalities a bit. So yeah, Maxie's gotten so obsessed with winning that he wants to kill. I might have gone too far with that...Welp, until next time my cool readers!
