Chapter 16

No one POV

Chaeyoung took out a piece of paper and put it in Mina's hand. Mina looked shocked at it.

"This was the day I fell in love with you" Chaeyoung said softly and caressed Mina's hand.

"It's incredible, how did you do that?" Mina asked not moving her eyes from the paper.

"Will you please promise me that you won't get mad if I tell you this?" Chaeyoung asked with puppy eyes.

"Why would I be mad? Just tell me" Mina said and turned to Chaeyoung.

"I was secretly watching you when you danced in the garden at school" Chaeyoung mumbled enough to make Mina hear it.

"Yah!" Mina screamed and hit Chaeyoung playfully.

"Sorry, you were just too stunning not to be stared at" Chaeyoung apologized shyly.

"You sound like a perverted guy" Mina said with a face of disgust to tease Chaeyoung.

"No way!" Chaeyoung whined loudly.

Mina chuckled and looked at the paper again.

"When did you draw this?" Mina asked Chaeyoung.

"This was actually my imagination before I met you, it was like my drawing had become a human when I first saw you after my detention" Chaeyoung said with a sincere tone.

Mina laughed silently.

"What's funny?" Chaeyoung asked and raised an eyebrow in confusion.

"You got a detention?" Mina said and tried holding in her laughter.

"Yah, stop being like this; yes I got one, and I decided to draw you because I was bored" Chaeyoung whined like a child.

"You know you're cute when you're mad, right?" Mina said and pinched Chaeyoung's cheeks.

Chaeyoung slightly blushed but decided to reply her with a smile.

"I hope you're feeling better now" Chaeyoung looked at Mina.

"Yes, thank you so much Chaeng" Mina said happily.

"I'll get going now, it's almost dark" Chaeyoung said and was about to stand up when Mina grabbed her wrist.

"Please stay here. Only tonight, I feel lonely without you" Mina begged.

"Aigoo, you look like a sad penguin" Chaeyoung stated and smiled at Mina revealing her dimple.

"Please"

"Alright then" Chaeyoung sat down.

She didn't even feel bad about it. As long Mina felt happy, her heart felt happy too. Chaeyoung then slowly started lying down because of the tiredness. She drifted to sleep not realizing that Mina fell asleep beside her still holding her hand.

Chaeyoung POV

A weird buzzing sound woke me up. It was my phone. I checked my phone, and there were two messages from my mom. Wait what? My mom? I haven't talked to her for 3 years, why would she suddenly text me? I was about to open the messages when I checked the clock. It was 7:01 am. Ahh, the messages can wait, I have school. I don't want detention; again.

I sat up and realized that Mina had been sleeping beside me the whole night. Mina looked so pure while sleeping, I couldn't stop smiling from ear to ear.

"Mina ya, we have to go to school" I tried waking her up.

"Yeah" she replied with her raspy morning voice that I found adorable.

She opened her sleepy eyes and let out a cough. I watched as she slowly got out of the bed and drank a glass of water before wearing her jacket.

"Let's go" I said and took her hand.

It was really cold outside, and I could see how much Mina was shivering. My bones felt like turning to ice as I took step after step. Suddenly I saw Mina trembling and landed on the ground with her knees.

"Mina ya!" I shouted and quickly kneeled down beside her.

I looked at her and her face was pale as snow, and her lips were blue and as cold as ice. I held her frozen hands and tried to warm them up. Mina didn't look okay at all.

"Mina ya, you can't show up at school like this" I wrapped my arms around her waist and tried to lift her up.

It was hard for her to stand up with her shaky legs. I wrapped her arm around my neck and tried to walk her back home while she was leaning on me. I was actually a really strong child, but it was hard to take Mina home while we were both freezing. We reached her apartment, and as soon as we entered her room, I immediately laid her on the bed and covered her with a blanket.

"You have to keep yourself warm, I don't want to see my Minari sick" I said bringing another blanket.

'Did I just say my Minari?'

'Gosh Chaeyoung, stop flirting'

I looked proudly at the number of blankets I had covered Mina with like it was some sort of art. I went to the kitchen and prepared some hot tea. At least I knew how to make tea. I also added a little bit of lemon to it.

"Here you go" I placed the tea beside Mina who was curled like a soft ball under all these blankets.

"T-thank you" Mina said and forced a smile on her cold face.

"Mina ya, you need to rest, don't worry I'll stay beside you until you get better. I'll never leave your side. Trust me" I said and caressed her head.

Mina gave me an eye smile that made my heart melt. Geez, Chaeyoung stop staring. I took my knit cap off and tucked it around Mina's head. I caught a little smile forming on her lips. I couldn't help but stare again. Mina ya, who are you to steal my heart like this?

After a couple of minutes, Mina had slowly fallen asleep beside me. I smiled and placed a kiss on her forehead. A buzzing sound caught my attention, and of course, it came from my phone. I opened and found a new message, but this time from my brother. I haven't checked my messages yet.
A tear of mine started rolling down my cheek as I read the messages from my mother.

"I know you don't want to talk nor see me again"

"But I just want to let you know that I've always loved you Chaeyoung; no matter what happened in the past"

My heart stopped when I read my brother's message.

"Mom is at the hospital"
