God, Loki hated shape-shifting into a horse. He hadn't done it since he was a child, and now he knew why. It was detestable, always stinking and being so big, with flies hoarding around you and people shoving food in your mouths. Loki deeply desired to shape back to his true form, but he could not. He would no doubt cause a stir if he causally strode the halls into his bedroom. So far he stayed as a horse, until he could think of a better idea.
He only saw Sigyn once in the past week or so. The only time he saw her was at his funeral. He had never seen her so distraught before. Sure, she was deeply saddened by her parents' deaths, but Loki's death was something else entirely. Odin, Frigga, and Thor even seemed so indifferent and unfazed by Loki's death. They probably thought Loki deserved to die, and this angered Loki. Well, someday he was going to show his true self, his non-animal form, and they were going to be sorry.
Loki's heart had fluttered when he saw Sigyn gingerly touch her stomach. Did that mean that she was pregnant? Oh, he wanted to be with her and his child so badly. He wanted to be there with his family. Loki deserved to be there with his darling family. He yearned to tell her to spend all her time in the stables, so he could feel her soft and gentle hands stroke his mane or nose. Maybe he could shift back into his regular self, so he could feel her stomach and kiss the lips he missed so much.
Since he spent a lot of time in the stables, he heard all sorts of gossip from the servants. He heard them speak of Sigyn very frequently. They always mentioned how Princess Sigyn was so detached and lost without Loki by her side. She barely even focused on her humanitarian programs anymore, and only spent her time in three places-their bedroom, the garden, and the Portal. She would sit there and stare off into the starry abyss, repeatedly asking Heimdell if he could spot Loki. Loki smiled to himself. Only Sigyn believed that he was still alive. She had not lost hope yet. Everyone in Asgard probably thought she was a crazy woman who could not accept her husband's death. No matter what, she always told others that Loki was alive and would return to her soon.
After a few months Loki was tired of being a horse. He decided to shape-shift into something more meaningful, something that Sigyn would automatically know it was him. He considering shape-shifting into a manservant and working to clean her quarters. It would be a sweet homage to their beginning together, to their entire journey. At first she would become uncomfortable with a strange servant taking such liking to her, but once Loki showed his true form, she would giggle uncontrollably. He knew that she would love it, just as much as she loved him.
Loki finally thought of the perfect shape. As a beggar, he scavenged trash in Asgardian alleys and found a big box. As a shopkeeper, he wrote a note and at night, as a beggar again, he placed the box outside the mail service building. In the morning, the box was directly delivered to Sigyn inside the palace walls. Loki was so excited to see her face when she opened the box. He knew that she would love it more than his manservant plan. Just thinking about it made him grin ear to ear in mischief and happiness.
"This package is for you, Sigyn," Loki heard Odin boom. Loki heard Sigyn's familiar footsteps on the cool marble floor as she approached the box.
"A package for me?" she sullenly whispered. Even though she sounded so depressed, Loki was so glad to hear her voice again.
"Well, open it," Thor demanded. Loki's smirk vanished right off his face. Now he disliked Thor with so much hatred and passion. Thor could have saved him on that bridge; Thor could have stayed on Earth and died. However, he was here, spending time with Sigyn and trying to bring her happiness once again. Thor was so despicable that it made Loki's eyes blaze in fury.
Light streamed into the dark box as Sigyn opened the flaps. She gasped at the present inside and gently went to pick it up, feeling the soft fur tickle her delicate fingers. Loki looked into her sparkling eyes as she stroked its fur, a smile cracking upon both of their faces. It had probably been ages since Sigyn last smiled.
