Finally after a rough morning of Algebra and English, It was time to go to lunch. The lunchroom was at the other end of the school, and I was hungry so I walked fast, avoiding running into Jason, Kyle, or Leelee. They would be at my table soon enough anyway. Occasionally I would get girls saying "Hey Drew" to me. Or one of the guys on the football team asking if I would be at practice today.
I had made it to the lunchroom. As always it smelt of dirty dishwater and of the gross food they serve in here which I rarely eat. There where tons of people in other grades already in here and some seniors, like myself, in line. I was hungry though so I grabbed a bag of Cheetos and stood in the long line.
It was finally my turn in line so I punched in my lunch number that I have had sense elementary school. The lunch lady, Mrs. Teena who had grey hair and was probably in her sixties, smiled at me and asked the question she asked me everyday. " Scored any baskets lately Drew?" in which I would reply, "No Mrs. Teena in football they are called touchdowns." You think she would understand by now.
After Mrs. Teena charged me, I walked nonchalantly over to the same round table I sat at everyday facing the door. Soon after I sat down I heard an all to familiar voice say
" Hey Drew." In a squeaky voice which I knew belonged to Leelee.
"Hey Babe." I said casually back to her.
Just then Jason, Kyle, and Derek, another guy from our team came and sat down carrying on a conversation about the science teacher Mr. Marbles. Leelee still talking to me and running her fingers through my hair, said.
" Baby, you haven't been seeming like your normal self lately, are you OK?"
" I just don't feel so well that's all." I lied back.
" OK well I'm going to go sit over with the girls today and let you rest." She said kissing my cheek and walking away with her brown curls bouncing behind her.
After she left I opened my bag of Cheetos and begin eating, not talking to anyone. I just sat there listening to Jason talking to Kyle about what kind of beer tastes best. How stupid I thought.
I finished my bag of Cheetos not leaving any crumbs. So I just sat there watching people go in and out of the cafeteria. Some freshman's were leaving and going back to their classes, and the track team was coming in with coach Alabaster. Then the CDC kids. Which meant the kids that had autism , or are mentally challenged in some way. They were the kids that especially the popular kids like me, made fun of.
I never really meant too, but that was one of the things it seemed like I was expected to do because of my popularity. I didn't feel good about it.
I really did feel sorry for them. One of them was in a wheel chair and looked to be the worst out of all of them, I didn't really know what was wrong with her, but it me feel really bad because of the way she looked. Then there looked to be a mentally challenged boy holding on to the teachers arm. He was really skinny and had a little grin on his face. He wore khaki pants that seemed to be up past his belly button and a plaid button up shirt. It looked like something out of the fifties.
Then there was another girl. I have seen her around in the halls before, but I never really new what was wrong with her. She looks perfectly normal and anyone would think that too if you saw her alone in the hall with out the others. She was actually really really pretty, if not more than that. She was tall, and had long bleach blond hair, she was tan, and had really nice big green eyes. I had heard before that she was mentally challenged with some disease that caused her to act like a little kid, and throw tantrums.
I turned back around as they entered the line to get their food. Jason was asking me which beer I preferred and I just simply answered, "It don't matter to me bro, beer is beer." When I was really thinking no beer is my favorite, it's nasty. We talked some more about last Friday nights football game as we left our table and paused by the outside of the cafeteria door.
I stood there leaning against the outside of the wall while Jason went over to talk to some guy I have never seen before. By now the CDC kids where out of the cafeteria standing by the classroom located by the cafeteria wall where I was standing. Their teacher was inside talking to the teacher that ran the classroom, while she left them outside.
The boy, that looked like he could be from the fifties, looked over my way for second, I felt myself giving him an awkward smile. Then he turned around. The pretty blond with the nice eyes, was standing, her back to me, with her hands on the handles of the wheel chair. I felt myself staring at her. She really did have a nice figure.
Just then, Jason came back over.
" Whatcha starin at there man?' Jason said.
Before I could answer, Jason said spoke again, " Ohhh I see, your staring at that little retarded blond chick." " I heard she's an easy target to get she wouldn't know anything anyway." Jason said slyly. " Watch this."
I watched Jason walk behind the pretty girl and the next thing I knew I heard him say,
" Hey you retard you got a nice thing going for you there." Then he grabbed her butt.
The next thing I knew the girl turned around and started screaming "Stop!" It made the teacher run out of the classroom and look straight at Jason who also looked stunned.
" Do you know what happened here son!?" The CDC teacher said.
" No I don't." Lied Jason. " I was just walking down the hallway here to talk to my friend Drew and the next thing I knew the poor girl turned around and started yelling."
" Thank you son, come on now Jade, your ok no one is going to hurt you."
Jade. Her name is Jade. That proves why her eyes are so green.
Jason and I walked away. " That was a good one Jason." I said.
" I know. right?"
I regretted what I said. I really wish the teacher would have walked out and caught Jason. I didn't like what he did to Jade. I didn't like it at all. Though I wouldn't have the courage to say it. Next time though I don't care, if he does it again I am definitely going to say something!. I don't know why but I feel a need to want to protect that girl if he does something to her and I don't know why. She is mentally challenged after all. I still feel the need though.
Thats the end of chapter 2!!! I hope you liked it:P
