Chapter 27

It has been two weeks since we started the WAEC examination. I have been able to make new friends from other schools and socialize with people, I haven't done that in a long time.

"Hey Daniella,come this way"

I said waving my hand inorder for my friend, Daniella to see us. We were currently in break period sitting in the school's cafeteria. We are having three papers today,and we have written only 1. I ordered Some snacks while Mary and Nora ordered some rice and stew.

"Hello ladies, how far na"

Daniella said sitting in our midst. She was wearing a tight blue skirt and a white blouse with her school name written all over. She likes tight clothes,clothes that will bring out her shape and the boys will stare.

"Nothing oh,we just dey revise for the next paper".

Mary said opening her can coke.

" I get gist for Una oh".

Daniella said again. She always has something to say. Either latest celebrity gossips or one new make sense movie is out. She will come and tell us the story.

"Wetin happen again na,tell us".

I said adjusting myself in the seat. Nora was the only person not showing concern, she was with her phone logged into Instagram, she didn't care less what we were saying.

" Nora, you dey hear me so,make I nor waste my saliva "

Daniella said to her hitting the table to gain her attention.

"I will only listen on one condition"

Nora said eyes on her phone.

"What!"

We chorused.

"Don't speak pidgin, you know it is prohibited and it irritates my ears"

Nora said trying to give us her baby face. We all sat down there surprise.Daniella suddenly burst out laughing.

"Oh really, the phone you sneaked in isn't prohibited abi,Abeg if you nor wan hear commot for this area"

Daniella said making a good point.

"Yes she's right,if you are not ready to listen,just leave".

I added.

Nora always act like she's from a rich family. She wants to make friends with other rich students that she just met.Whereas, she has nothing, forgive me but those her rich friends will just eat from her till she runs dry. She's lucky she met us. Even though she's from another school, I have been able to know their behaviors in just  2weeks. By the way half of the students taking the WAEC exams are under the federal government scholarship program.

"Nora, they cannot catch us speaking pidgin because our phonetic is too good for the Supervisors​ to believe that we speak pidgin, but see you,you brought a contraband to exam center,they will just say you want to do exam malpractice. infact your case na worse pass, abeg Daniella continue the gist"

Mary finally said leaving Nora to decide on whose side she's on.

She was about standing up to leave when Daniella held her hands.

"So you really want to go, why can't you just stop your pretentious act, we all know you have nothing stop forming one big girl, or have you forgotten the day i caught you speaking that strong Warri pidgin"

Daniella said.

"Ehen,Warri pidgin,and you no tell us"

Mary said smiling.

"Hmmm that is a story for another day, Nora sit down"

Daniella ordered.

The yeye girl sat down without saying anything. She get mind to challenge Daniella. Abi she won cry!

I thought.

I so love the fact that i made friends with Daniella. She's not afraid of any body oh. She's a Lagos breed,strong Yoruba girl. She can put story for Africa. No news is hidden under the sun when Daniella is around. She has her ways. She's a fighter,tough girl that no boy messes with,she's real,original African. Am happy i met her. Really.

We successfully wrote the next paper immediately after break was over. Even though i don't like the third paper the number of people writing it are much. Me I cannot write agricultural science oh. That is the second subject i can never understand,the first is mathematics.

Me,Mary and Daniella were not writing it so we carried our bags and left the hall.

"Are we not waiting for Nora?"

I asked them. We were already outside the gate and they didn't say anything about Nora.

"She has legs, she will come on her own. I can't sit here for the next 2hours + when am very hungry. Abeg lemme be going".

Daniella said stopping a motorcycle.

"And you? Mary?"

I turned to Mary.

"I am very tired. Her rich friends will wait for her, shey all of them are writing Agric science too,they will walk together, abeg Favour don't disturb yourself, let's go joor"

Mary said dragging me along. Daniella was still finding a hard time to stop a motorcycle.

"Dani,since na you dey stop bike o,wetin dem dey talk?"

Mary said laughing Daniella. She has problem pricing. Especially with bike men.

"They can't carry me for #100,they say #150 or #200 last"

Daniella said. She is really tired. The paper we just finished writing was Accounting,with all the plenty calculations and balancing of accounts​,it was just too much.

"Abeg let's trek it small"

I said moving forward and they both followed me. We gist and talked about different things. Daniella and Nora attends the same school while Mary goes to another school outskirts of town. Daniella brought up things happening in her school,Mary did same and they just try to compare it with my school. We got to the junction,said our goodbyes and went our separate ways. 

I just hoped my friendship with these girls will end well. I don't want a repeat of another Charlotte incident. I want true friends.
