It was just like any other day in dull boring Maryland, home of two things: Crabs and nothing. I live in Frederick and I have my whole life, my life has always been the same, I've always been the oldest with two younger brothers, my parents have always been happy together, and I've always had the same best friend, Jack Dylan Grazer. Ever since I was a baby I've known Jack and ever since then we've been close, very close.
(This is the intro paragraph)"Elyssa! Get up its time for school." My dad yelled from the bottom of the stairs. I stood up and groggily walked into my bathroom, I washed my face and brushed my teeth and then went back into my room to put on some clothes. I decided to just make it through the day, there was no reason to impress anyone. I put on some dark yoga pants and a red long sleeve University of Maryland shirt. It was October so it wasn't super cold, but also not very warm. October was the month when the wind got sharp and the first snowfall usually happened. I put on some warm socks and some Uggs and then went downstairs to eat breakfast. I poured some Frosted Flakes in a bowl and started eating it with my hands, I'm not a big fan of milk and the cereal tastes better by itself. My middle brother came downstairs and grabbed and orange. His name is Garett he's 13 and I'm 15. My other brother came down a few seconds later, laid down on the couch and went to sleep. His name is Darian and he's 10. I finished my cereal and went outside to get a ride with my neighbor Emily. Emily is my best girlfriend, she's always there for me when it comes to things Jack can't understand, she's also 17 so she can drive. I'm a sophomore and she's a junior, so she's always been my wiser friends that can prepare me for stuff that she's already been through which is why I love her. I walked over to her house and knocked on the door, she blew her car horn and scared the shit out of me. I turned around a flipped her off, she laughed. I got in the passenger seat.
"Good Morning to you too." I said smiling. She laughed,
"The early bird gets to school first." She said. She's always been excited for school because 'it's where the actions at'. We got to school about twenty minutes before first period just like we usually do. We went and sat in the east stairwell, that's where our friend group meets throughout the day to talk and gossip. I pulled out my phone to text Jack to see where he was, usually he beats us to school in the morning because he rides the bus. Then I heard a voice behind me,
"Good morning America, how did everyone sleep?" He said smiling. I loved his smile, it said more than most books I've ever read.
"I slept like a rock Jacky." I said smiling back. My second favorite thing about Jack is his mood, he's always happy. He came down the steps and sat next to me. We all talked, Jen and Alex showed up, and then Finn and Jaeden came too, now the whole gang was here. The early bell rang so we all went to our classes, Jack and I had first period together and it was biology. Biology was my favorite class because I loved science especially biology, because as an adult I aspire to be a marine biologist. Jack says I aspire to be a nerd, but it's funny so I don't get mad at him. Today we were learning about the bodies functions of fighting off disease.
"Now can anyone tell me how our bodies get rid of disease." Mr.Clark asked, I raised my hand because I knew he wouldn't call on me. He waved his finger around and then finally, "Mr.Grazer can you tell me how the body gets rid of disease?" He asked again. Jack smiled,
"It usually starts with a trip to the doctors and ends with some antibiotics." He said. Everyone started laughing, Jack had always been the class clown, it was easy for him because he was so likable and funny.
"Very funny Jack, the only thing funnier than that is the score you got in our last quiz." Mr.Clark acted like he dropped a mic. The whole class started laughing, Jack looked down embarrassed. I rubbed his thigh trying to make him not feel so bad. He's never been the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I've always tried my best to help him because that's what best friends are for. After class I went to my locker and switched my folders. That's when I saw Olivia Brooksfeld, the resident mean girl, and also Jacks ex. She passed us In the hallway with her group making snooty looks at me as she passed.
"Down worry, the only thing nastier than those girls is the list of stds they'll have by the time they're 25." Jack said. He always had my back even when he didn't need too. We walked to his locker so he could get his stuff for his next period. I leaned my back against the locker next to his.
"Do you wanna hang out tonight?" I asked him. He didn't look at me while he was still getting his stuff.
"Tonight? Umm, what time?" He asked.
"Whatever time you're available." I said. He looked at me.
"You know I have a game tonight right?" He asked. Damn how could I forget, it was the last basketball game of the season, this game decided if our school got into the playoffs or not and Jack was the teams point guard and leader in assist and points.
"Yeah of course I do, I meant afterwards." I said trying to play it off.
"Elyssa you're such a bad liar." He said laughing. "But yes let's hang out, you can sleep over at my house after the game." He said smiling at me and shutting his locker.
"Cool sounds like a plan." I said. We started walking to our second periods.
