A Better Best Friend

Jacks concussion was extreme, the doctor said it was the equivalent of Jack running into a wall head first. He also said Jack was out of it and it was just hard to tell, his prescription was some pain killers for his inevitable head aches, and no phone or tv for a week. We got Jack back home and then he wouldn't stop talking. He was asking random questions and just pointing stuff out. It was actually kind of funny.

"Mom I want Elyssa to sleep over with me." He said, he gave me a half hug.

"As long as it's fine with her mother it's fine with me." She said. I texted my mom and asked and she said it was fine. Jack and I have been best friends forever so we've had plenty of sleepover. I already had clothes in his room so I just went up and changed. He came into the dark room.

"You're so pretty I'm so glad you're my best friend." He said smiling and sitting on his bed.

"Awe thanks jacky I'm glad you're my best friend too." I laid down on the other side of the bed. Jack laid down and rolled over, he just stared at me for like 3 minutes. "What?" I asked laughing.

"I'm just trying to figure out how you're so beautiful." He said. I was blushing so much.

"Thanks Jack. You're cute too you know." I said. He raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah, but not like you. I want a girlfriend like you." He said. I got chills when he said that. He grabbed my hand send lightning bolts through my whole body. He just nodded and let go and then rolled over and went to sleep like nothing happened. It was so confusing I texted Emily to tell her about it.

Lys-Emily I have so much to tell you
Em-Where the hell did you go I waited for you
Lys-Sorry I left with Jack to go to the hospital
Em-Where are you now?
Lys-I'm having a sleepover with Jack
Em-How bad was his concussion?
Lys-really bad he's acting like he's tipsy
Lys-Well he was now he's sleeping
Em-Damn
Lys-He said some interesting things
Em-Like what
Lys-He told me I'm pretty, then beautiful, and then he said he wants a girlfriend like me
Em-OMG NOW WAY
Lys-Yes way
Em-What did you say
Lys-I didn't know what to say so I just said thanks
Em-Omg omg
Lys-Ikr he grabbed my hands and it felt so warm
Em-Do you like him?
Lys-No I just haven't had that kind of moment with him before
Em-Do you think he likes you?
Lys-Idk. I don't think he knows what he's saying
Em-Yeah maybe
Lys-Well I felt like I had to tell you goodnight
Em-Night

I turned my phone off and rolled over. I pulled Jack closer to me because he was warm. He turned over and opened his eyes.

"Hello." He said tired. He was asleep for only like 10 minutes, he played hard and I'm sure his head was killing him.

"Hey how do you feel?" I asked softly.

"My heads killing me, I barely remember what happened tonight. Wow the shock wore off that fast?

(I know how concussions work don't kill me)

"Do you remember the game?" I asked. He shook his head no and then grabbed the side of his head in pain.

"What happened?" He said wincing in pain.

"Well you guys lost." I said avoiding eye contact. He looked down. "I'm sorry." I said.

"It's okay there's always next year." He said putting on a fake smile. I patted his shoulder. "I'm just glad we're friends." He said.

"Yeah me too, I don't know what I'd do without you jacky." I said smiling. He smiled too.

"I always have fun being with you, even if we weren't talking id still enjoy it." He said. That made my heart warm to know he felt that way, I do too.

"Yeah me too." I didn't know what else to say he laughed. I just stared into his brown eyes. His eyes were so energetic, just like his personality. I cuddled up close to him. He wrapped his arms around me. "Jack?" I asked.

"Yeah?" He said.

"Do you like me?" I asked. He took a deep breath.

"Yeah." He said. My heart was so warm. I cuddled up closer to him. We both fell asleep.
