Your Voice

31 2 2

Your voice is a melody,
That which accompanies a series of rhythms,
Harmonies,
Beats.

I think not even you can realize how truly beautiful it is.
How truly beautiful you are,
Each syllable new and unsure.

Your melody changes from day to day
Hour to hour.

To the public,
Your voice is merely complimentary
To the impatient nods and stifled sighs.

To a friend,
Your voice is used a little more,
To tell stories of days gone by.
To make dark jokes that I laugh at in the background.

To me, you use it less,
For your eyes do most of the talking as you listen and laugh
At my sarcastic musings of the world around me.

Your smile, your laugh -
They pitch in, too.

[oh, how I live for your smile]

Your smile is like drums,
Constant,
Often the star of the show.

Your laugh is the guitar that goes solo
To emphasize the beauty of your song.

Your eyes are piano.
My favorite part.

They enhance everything about you,
Taking my soul to starry new heights.

Your gaze washes over me
And I fizz.
Helpless.
"I am lost in the tide of your breathing."

You see,
Your voice is just that.
A voice.
Your voice.

The rest of the song
The rest of you
Can stand on its own.

But your words,
They add meaning and context,
Laughter and tears.

[oh, how I long to hear your song once more]

(quote, "I am lost in the tide of your breathing," is modified from the song "Cherry Wine" by Hozier.)
