Donnie shuddered slightly as he shuffled through an alley, turning another corner in this labyrinth of twisted streets. In the distance, he heard the crunching of gravel, breath quickening as he scanned over the deserted road. Moonlight bathed the night sky, casting spindly shadows upon the pavement.
He etched forward, clutching his torch tightly as he rounded another corner.
Before he had the chance to scream, Donnie found himself tangled in another persons limbs, wrestling to free himself. This was to know avail however, as he was soon hanging from the wall, neck encased in a gloved hand. He flailed around, struggling to breath as his attacker strangled him.
"WHO ARE YOU? WHY ARE YOU HERE?" The man yelled, tightening his grip around Donnie's neck. He had cloth wrapped around his head, obscuring the sight of his features."I...am...Don-nie...hamato..." Donnie whispered between gasps, blackness beginning to cloud his vision.
"That's...thats impossible..." He heard the man murmur, dropping to the ground as the stranger relinquished his grip on him.
Donnie scrambled around, sucking in air, trying to quench his thirsty lungs.
He stood, staring directly into the eyes of the other man. He almost chocked at the sight of his eyes. They were emerald green, with the same passion he knew only his brother could wield.
Those eyes however, morphed into amber as the man activated his powers. Flames snakes around his palm as he stared Donnie down, taking a step forward.
"If this is some dirty trick..." He began, eyes narrowing as he approached.
"N-no...it's not...it's me, really..." Tears trickled down Donnie's cheeks as he watched his brother unwrap the scarf covering his face.
He was met with familiar fiery red hair, which stuck up in random places, just as he'd remembered it doing. A scar ran along his brothers face, teaching from his temple, to his cheek.
"Raph..." Donnie breathed, reaching froward to embrace his brother.
"I thought I'd never see you again." Raph shuddered, pulling away. "Come on...it's not safe here..."Donnie followed Raph down the street, stoping near a wired fence. Raph crouched down next to a hole, peering back at Donnie who gave him a doubtful glance.
"It's perfectly safe." The older reassured, clambering through the whole. Donnie reluctantly followed, eyeing the sign plastered on the fence. The were now out of the city.
The land beyond the modernised, illuminated buildings was dusty and abandoned due to the lethal dessert animals that thrived there.Raph led him towards a camp consisting of a mere three tents, two motorcycles and a log fire. Raph gestured to the two seat by the flames, occupying one himself.
"Where are the others?" He began, clutching something around his neck subconsciously.
Donnie lowered his eyes, staring at the flickering flames next to them. "I...I dunno..." He sighed. "I've been trying to locate them ever since but..."
Raph just nodded, leaning back in his seat. The shadow of the flames danced across his face in the light of the fire.
"What's that?" Donnie inquired, nodding towards the object clenched in his brother's hand. Raph stared down at it, before leaning towards Donnie, displaying the bit of shaped wood.
There were carvings upon it, carvings of their elements. There were flames, electric bolts, drops of water and clouds. In the middle of these professional-like carvings was a heart.
"Leo gave it to me,"Raph murmured, running a finger over the wood. "The last time I saw him."
The two sat in a comfortable silence, both reflecting on the days spent with their other brothers.
"I miss them." Donnie mumbled, fidgeting slightly.
"Yeah." Raph agreed, staring out into the night sky. "Mikey was aloud stay, do you know if he's in this area."
"He's not. I've searched all areas in the city were mutants go into hiding, and unless he's somehow living with the humans, Mikey is gone."
Raph didn't say anything, he instead remained staring up at the stars.
"So," He began, turning to look at Donnie. "What have you been up to for the last twelve years."
Donnie thought for a moment. It was a casual question, though he could sense the seriousness of the topic writhing beneath.
"Well I was sent to Mexico. I lived on the streets for four year until I'd made enough money to move here. I was offered a place in an apartment run by mutant eight years ago and that's where I'm living. What about you?"Raph shifted to look at him.
"Some rebels rescued me from my train and took me in. We've moved to many countries, fought many wars, lost a lot of people." He closed his eyes for a few seconds before continued. "I've seen things Don. Things I hope you'd never have to experience. I became leader of the rebellion after the man who took me in...Slash...was...was killed."Donnie stared at his brother, resting a hand next to him. "I'm sorry."
"It's ok. Like I told you, I've seen a lot...you get over that kind of thing after a while." Raph sighed, once again staring up at the sky.
"So...you mentioned that you've moved countries...have you ever had the chance to look for Leo?" Donnie asked, changing the subject.
Raph turned to look at him, raw emotions burning in his eyes.
"There's no point looking for him Don. Leo's dead." The words struck Donnie like a bullet."N-no...no he's not Raph. I know he's not. He can't be-"
"Yes he is Don." Raph raised his voice slightly.
"No...Leo is still here Raph...I can't sense it-" Donnie insisted, eyes wide.
"No Donnie you weren't there when-"
"I'm telepathic Raph! And I know Leo is somewhere-"
"LEO'S DEAD DON...CAN'T YOU JUST EXCEPT THAT...I WATCHED HIM GET DRAGGED AWAY..." Raph cried, eyes flaming, firsts scrunched at his sides.
"HE SAVED MY LIFE BY TAKING A BLADE SENT FOR ME AND THEY STILL WENT TO EXECUTE HIM ANYWAY..." The flame was then diminished as he sunk to the ground, thinking back to that night.
"He's gone Donnie...I'm sorry..." With that, Raph departed to a nearby tent, leaving Donnie alone by the fire, tears streaming down his face.A/N: Don't worry! Things may not be as they seem
