Heather and Phoenix sat next to the feasting pair as they finished drinking the blood of the dead fairy, ready to make their next move as a team. ‘Whatever we face next, we need to face it together. Even if we need to split up, you go with Ardan and I will always be by my wife’s side,’ Phoenix announced. They all agreed. He continued to give his ideas of how to tackle the obstacles as Luan began to get nervous; she looked up at Ardan for support.
He held her as he gave his input into the plan and she embraced his affection, wrapping her arms around him and leaving him to look down at her slightly awkwardly. ‘Awww, I think we have a new hot couple for this series!’ Ophelia joked as she went to serve another customer.
I wanted to rip the screen down but I knew I had to hide my anger. ‘Thanks for the drink, Ophelia, but I’ve got to get back to work. No rest for the wicked…’ I joked.
She waved her hand and shouted, ‘Yep, and that’s definitely you, isn’t it?’ I chuckled and quickly ran out of the door. Unable to hold it in any longer, I screeched with ferocity, unfazed by fellow vampires popping into the tavern for a quick drink.
Needing an update, I ran back to the office, hoping I would have an envelope on my desk telling me Drake was proceeding with my plan. The office was silent as I swung open the door, expecting to see the workers cleaning up the remnants of my rampage.
It was all clean and everyone was working in silence. ‘What’s going on?’ I barked as Darcy came running to my side.
‘I think everyone is a little nervous after your outburst, so they’re just avoiding you,’ he said as I looked around at the fearful workforce.
None of them made eye contact. This pleased me, in a way, as it meant I wouldn’t be disturbed. ‘Did anything come for me while I was out?’ I asked supremely, checking to see if anyone flinched.
‘Nope, it’s been quite quiet’ Darcy replied as he flicked through the files on his desk. I returned to my chair, disappointed and with no reason switch on the screen. ‘Oh, wait - something did come for you but I was told not to open it…’ He shuffled through some papers on his desk, revealing a leather envelope.
I snatched it from his hands and opened it: ‘Dear my love, I have news on the contestant’s husband and son. We have located them and executed the husband; however, the son is quick and has escaped. We have a few creatures on his scent and will hopefully complete the task in a few days. Come back to my office soon, I have a surprise for you. Yours, D’ I shuddered at the thought of his romantic surprise.
Jumping up and holding the envelope to my chest, everyone noticed my new, ecstatic nature with worry; I danced round like a school girl after her first kiss. ‘Good news, I guess?’ Darcy asked sarcastically.
‘The best!’ I squealed as I switched on the screen, hoping it would cut back to Aries giving this great piece of news. After enduring another five minutes of watching Phoenix comfort his wife and Luan trying to get a little closer to Ardan, the screen went black.
‘Emergency update! We have an update on contestant Luan’s husband and son. Previously on the run for the same crime as she, they have been located and the husband has been killed. The son has escaped, but there is a search party looking for him as we speak. Going live to Luan, I will now tell her the excruciatingly exciting news!’ Aries announced. The office workers raced to the screens and I sat back with a smug expression on my face, ignoring Darcy’s questioning stares.
The screen zoomed into Luan’s face as Aries voice bellowed into the artificial world. Savouring the moment, he read the news slowly, taking in every inch of her agony. It took him only seconds to make the announcement, but the camera remained on her for the rest of the night, allowing the audience to take in every second of her pain.
As soon as her brain processed the news, she went into shock, disbelieving and thinking it was a plan to throw her off her goal of reaching the end of the game. However, with images of her dead husband beamed into the sky, she could not be in denial any longer.
Even the long embrace from Ardan could not comfort this now wildly vengeful vampire’s temper. ‘I’m so sorry…’ Heather whispered as she backed away with Phoenix, seeing the raw rage bubbling inside her.
‘Why them? Why?!’ Luan muttered as she lashed out at the cold, night air.
Ardan tried to grab her to calm her down, but the power inside took over her. She began running into the distance, looking for a way out. ‘WAIT! LUAN! WE NEED TO STICK TOGETHER!’ he shouted as he raced after her.
He was the only one in the group that could match her supernatural speed; however, she had gone too far.
