The mud was fatal to any contestant that it hit; it covered the victim from head to toe, crushing their bones and leaving the skin for the creature to devour.
Dodging the swamp demons, the animated trees, the ice ogres (which fired ice at their victims to freeze their heads while eating the remaining sections of their bodies to absorb powers and abilities), there was no option but to continue to use our powers to get through the zone and to fend off the growing group of animals that was emerging.
The beasts swooped, launched and fired at us, determined to get their next meal. 'BEHIND YOU!' I yelled at Heather as the ice ogre fired in her direction. She turned and held her hands up just in time to create a forcefield. The ice bullet rebounded off the protective barrier, leaving the ogre to try to get to her itself instead.
It threw the other creatures out of the way in its attempts to get to Heather's pretty head. 'STAY WITH US!' Ardan shouted, while he struggled to fight off the tree's grasp to bring help to Heather.
The ogre was within centimetres of her, though she still fought back the other creatures trying to pierce her barrier, which was weakening by the second. The ogre punched and scratched the obstacle to get to its prize. 'HELP ME!' she screamed, but no one was available.
Phoenix held his hands in the air and began firing at the creatures attempting to get to his wife. Limbs flew through the air, creatures exploded, animals sizzled and faded into the gloom as their bodies cremated. Meanwhile, he grabbed his wife and joined forces to help the others. 'Do you have enough energy to help protect the group up to the border?' he asked the witch, who grabbed onto my hand and nodded. 'ARDAN, HOLD ON!' Phoenix shouted again.
Heather and Phoenix began chanting and everyone held tight to each other. 'I call upon the help of my coven, to protect us when I summon. To engulf us with their power, to avoid our untimely fate this hour.'
The protection barrier glowed white, looking stronger than ever. We started to run through the shadows, blasting each attacking creature out of its way with just one touch of the barrier. 'DON'T STOP, WE'RE NEARLY THERE!' Phoenix shrieked. The glow of the next zone loomed large, and the creatures of the shadows were sent shrieking into the night, cheated out of their kill.
