TAYLOR YORK'S POV
Hayley ended up spending the night at my house.
She cried for a long time, then just sat in the backyard alone. Technically, I was there too, but I just laid down on the grass a distance away. Truth be told, I fell asleep for a little bit, but I don't think Hayley noticed anyways.
At some point we had to talk about it, so as I introduced the subject, she cut to the chase and said that we all should talk.
So we video called with Jeremy. And we talked for hours. We re-addressed the whole issue about Josh's messy departure.
This time, Hayley opened up more. Since it's been over 20 years, she felt less constricted to not let certain things out. She confessed how they would nearly get back together, even when she was first dating Chad. How Jenna and Hayley had it out for each other, after Jenna laid down the law of "owning" Josh.
It was tangled, all the bumpy roads they hit after they broke up, but that the departure blog was the end of the road for them. She knew, no matter what, they will never be together again. Of course, as Jeremy chimed in, it should have been his wedding that was the end, but Hayley knew that even then, if she tried hard enough, Josh would of came chasing back to her.
And it was deranging to think so, that if Hayley stuck with him, he might not been doing what he was doing.
But as much she answered in confessions, she had twice as many questions. To the best of my ability, I responded to each one I could.
Why was Josh drunk driving in the first place? Why was he drinking in the day? Or was he hungover and then made the poor decision to drive home?
But wait, I pieced, he wasn't going home. At least, that wasn't the direction he was headed.
And as to the best of my knowledge thus far, Josh wasn't out anywhere. Zac said that he's been to himself for a while, rarely leaving his house.
Either way, something bad must have been going on. But at this moment, it didn't matter.
Jeremy planned on coming down as soon as he could. He wanted to visit too, which was a surprise to me. We decided we would all go together. I called Zac to ask for Jenna's number. Once I got it, I texted her and filled her in that we were going to visit once Jeremy gets in. She texted me back, gratefully brief about her thanks and to take our time: looks like Josh wouldn't be waking up anytime soon.
After it was settled, I finally saw that the time was past midnight. I have yet to spend a decent day with my kids, or with my wife for that manner. I was buried in my troubles and nerves I haven't un-winded with them as I wanted to. This was supposed to be our last tour, IF it is our last tour, as a band. But now it just extended.
I stayed with her, lying on the floor while she was on the bed in our spare room.
"Hayley?" I asked, breaking the long dark silence between us. I was starting to drift off to sleep.
"Hmm?" she tiredly acknowledged.
"Why did you think Jess was pregnant?"
Hayley let out a loud chuckle. "Well you guys were super lovey dovey! It was my best guess."
"What do you mean 'lovey dovey'?" I interjected.
"Hugging her and holding her hand and kissing her on the head. C'mon now."
I laughed it off. "I was just nervous."
"Well that's cute." she merrily replied.
"Yeah you know, that's my thing." I facetiously retorted.
