"I'm home!" I shout into the empty house. I guess I knew it was empty when I said it, but it comforted me.

I drop my stuff onto the counter and go over to the answering machine, where the blinking light holds four new messages.

The machine beeps three times before it repeats the first message.

"Hello, it's grandma Morgan. I was just calling about your summer plans. I know you guys were discussing coming to visit me at my new house. Talk to you later, bye."

It beeped again.

"Hey Morgans! It's Jen calling. I just wanted to know if Ellie could go on the modeling trip with me or not. My manager really needs to know! Call me back A.S.A.P. Bye!"

Another beep.

"Hello, this is Victoria Barron. I was calling to remind Ellie about our meeting today at her school. Have a nice day. Goodbye."

That lady again. Beep

"Hello, Morgan family. My name is Casey of the hospital your son, Caleb, is currently at. I have an update on his condition, and it is urgent. So, if you could call me back as soon as you get this; or come up to visit, that would be great. Have a nice day."

The last beep sounded.

Caleb. There was news about Caleb. I have to go.

I grabbed my keys and left without even noticing the note on the counter.
