I put myself to bed that night. I pick out a pair of fuzzy, warm blue pajamas with little pictures of clouds on them. I take some pain meds for my wrist. It's killing me. The pain radiates from my fracture to my shoulder. It comes in waves. It sort of reminded me of getting my braces when I was 12. At first, it didn't hurt, but a few hours later I was wailing as I bit into a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The doctor warned me it would hurt later, I blaintly ignored him though. I popped the immense pill into my mouth and drowned it with Dr. Pepper.
I go back into my room, turning off the light. I turn on my bedside lamp and the T.V. situated above my dresser. I flip through the recordings and come across a very old movie. I click it, reading it's description. My dad must have recorded it. He is way into the old movie stuff. I see a few names I am familiar with and decide to click play.
I suddenly remember seeing this movie before. It was two or three years ago. I watched it with Jen and her parents. I watch and even sing along as I remember all the Summer Nights and Grease Lightening. My favorite song on the whole movie is We Go Together. It kind of reminds me of that one movie with that one person in it. I know- specific right?
As the ending credits roll, I glance at the clock. It is only 10. I decide to text Jen.
**Me- Hey Jen. Whats up?
**Jennnyyyy- I'm suprised you're still up. BTW THE WHOLE SCHOOL IS TALKING ABOUT CALEB BEING AWAKE!!!!
**Me- I already visited him. I then had to get my cast re-done. Also, I think Brandon has memory loss or something.
**Jennnyyyy- Wait? Cast re-done what happened? And what makes you think so?
**Me- I slipped in Caleb's room. P.s. I'm getting rid of those velvet flats. Only $150!
**Jennnyyy- Heck no! I never trusted those slippery shoes anyway. I told you not to buy them. So I guess you're okay now?
**Me- Okay. Fine. Got me there.
**Jennnyyy- Anyways. Brandon? Whats up with him?
**Me- He was acting totally wierd today in the hospital. He like said something really crazy and I almost made him get a PET Scan or something.
**Jennnyyyy- Whats wrong with him?
**Me- He wants to throw a party.
**Jennnyyyy- OMG! Take him back right now! There is something seriously wrong!
**Me- I know, that's what I said too!
**Jennnyyyy- Who for?
**Me- Caleb...
**Jennnyyy- Oh, that would make sense though.
**Me-Ikr
**Jennnyyy- CALL ME
**Me- KAY
She picked up on the first ring.
"I am supposed to be mad at you young lady!" She said, suddenly bursting.
"What for?" I say, thinking she is joking.
"You never got back to me on the modeling thing! I had to call your mom!"
"OMG I TOTALLY FORGOT! WITH THE WHOLE CALEB THING! OMG! I AM SO SORRY! I AM SOOOOOOOO BADDDDDDD. HOW COULD I FORGET!?" I mentally scold myself.
"I forgive you. Luckily, your mom had the answer." She says, slyly.
"What? She hasn't even told me yet? What did she say?"
"She said-"
She is interupted by my mom walking into the room.
"I'll call you later Jen, my mom is here."
"Kay, bye. Don't ignore me!" She jokes, hanging up.
"Bye," I say to the empty line.
My mom comes over and sits on my bed.
"Hey mom, what's up?" I say, hugging her.
"Oh, I've missed the normal life so much." She says, picking up a picture frame from my nightstand.
"What do you mean?" I knew the answer, I just wanted to hear her say it.
"Back when Caleb wasn't famous. Back when we still lived in Massachusetts." She sighs, setting it down.
"I know. I feel like that every day."
"You do?"
"Yeah," I sigh, my eyes dropping to a piece of lint on my pants.
"I think you need a break more than anyone."
"Why do you say that?"
"You work so hard. At school, you have good grades and lots of good friends. Overall, you just live with this. You never wanted the fame. I still remember when Caleb took his first movie and you re-set his clock to the wrong time so he would miss his alarm. You were so against it. I'm sorry."
"Mom, you don't have to be sorry for anything."
"Yes I do."
"No."
"Ellie, I have spent so much time at the hospital I don't even know what is going on in your life right now."
"Mom, it's okay. I never expected you to be home. At least with Caleb in his coma. Now that he is awake, it will be okay."
"You're right, sweetheart. I love you."
"Love you too mom."
"Now, I have something to discuss with you."
"Does it by chance have something to do with modeling? And California?" I ask, being nosy.
"Mabye." She jokes, laughing a little.
"What is it?"
"You can go."
"What?!"
"You can go to California."
"Really?"
"The plane leaves tomorrow at 2."
"Mom! Thank you so much!" I say, hugging her tightly.
"There is a catch."
I groan, ready for the worst.
"Brandon is going with you."
"Okay, fine. At least I get to go at all."
"That's right. Now, I'm going to go to my room and shower. Your dad has been hogging the shower. Good night sweetheart."
"Night mom," I say as she closes the door.
I immediatly call Jen and scold her for not telling me sooner.
