Prom is in two days.
"Ellie! Where's the Honey Combs?" Caleb shouted from the kitchen.
"How about the pantry? Where they always are." I call back.
Caleb has been home for awhile now, but the doctor recommend homeschooling him for awhile. Today is his first day back.
"Found them!"
I roll my eyes, slipping on my school uniform. Today is a high heel kind of day. I walk into my closet and stare at my 40 pairs of high heels in all colors and types. I decide on a pair of yellow wedged, but when I try them on, the black plaid of the uniform just makes me look like a bumblebee. I slide them off and put on my blue wedges.
My hair is being particularly nice to me today, so I decide to straighten it. Once I finish, I put on a little make up and walk downstairs.
"Caleb, why aren't you ready for school?" I say.
Caleb is standing there in his batman boxers. His uniform is no where in sight.
"It smelled weird, so I put it in the dryer to make it smell fresh," He shrugs. I mentally do a facepalm.
"You can't dry that! It will shrink!" I run into the laundry room and open the dryer. The smell of burnt linen drifts out of the dryer.
I pull out his blazer, which is now small enough to fit a kindergartener. Not to mention his pants are in threads.
"Oh crap. I only have 5 minutes to change." He runs out of the laundry room and up the stairs.
Five minutes later, we were in my car on the way to school. Caleb still isn't allowed to drive, I think you can guess why.
Pulling up in front of the school, I pull into the handicapped parking space the school is allowing Caleb to use since he is still a little rough on his feet.
As we make our way to the steps in front of the school, everyone stops and stares. And I mean everyone.
Jennifer spots us and half-runs-half skips over to us.
"Hey Caleb, hey Ellie. Man some people sure are happy to have you back," She nods her head in the direction of Jessica Werner, who looks like she is about to burst if she does not say something to Caleb.
"She's coming over here!" I whisper. "Act natural."
Cam walks over and slaps me on the back.
"Sup guys?!" He says too perkily.
"Shhhhhhhh! We're hiding from the beast," Caleb says, looking back at Jessica quickly.
Too late, she has started to come over. I hear Caleb mumble a few cuss words under his breath and he looks up, and puts on the best fake smile he could muster.
"Arielle, you are needed in the principals office," The secretaries voice came over the intercom.
"Well, see ya later guys, tell me how it goes with the Wicked Witch of Chance School."
I make my way into the office, where the lady who wants to do the documentary is sitting.
I mentally throw up at the thought of the last conversation I had with this woman.
"Hello there Arielle-" And before she has a chance to finish, I was out the door.
