So I listened to When I Was Younger by Liz Lawrence on repeat whilst writing this chapter and if you feel like being consumed by feels, play that song while reading this chapter. I think it fits appropriately. Just a suggestion. ps: two more chapters until the end ;p

"Is this seat close enough? Should we move?" Shane's mom asked, causing me, Jared, and Jacob to laugh. "We're on the row behind the graduates. Literally the front row." Jacob said, making us laugh again.
Shane's family had been trying to make me laugh all day long. They know I've been a wreck since Shane got accepted to Brown. And this was the last milestone before he leaves. They've been assuring me since the letters came last week that Shane would never leave me. That he'd wait for me. But college was a big deal; Nobody wants to be tied down in college. I have to let Shane go. It wouldn't be fair of me to bring him down.
There was a clearing-of-throat sound over the speakers and everyone snapped to attention. Who I assumed was the principal was on the stage, in front of a podium, speaking into a microphone. The graduation was starting. The end to my relationship with Shane was starting.
"Welcome, parents, friends, family, as we witness this momentous occasion in our seniors' lives ..." The principal began.
* * *
"Lisa Schwartz." The principal, Mister McBride, called and as she stood, I heard Shane let out a loud "Woohoo!" while his blonde friend laughed at him all the way up to the stage. Lisa's white cap and gown made her look like some sort of angel. I bet she had all of the straight boys falling all over her throughout high school. I had finally learned to appreciate her and Shane's friendship after he informed me a few days ago of everything she's done for him. I'd have to thank her for taking care of Shane until I came along.
"James Stewart." Mister McBride called over the microphone after Lisa sat back down.
Finally, they made it to Shane. "And last but definitely not least," the principal, a bald, stoic, short man dressed in a fancy suit, started. "We have Brown University Acceptant, Shane Sometimes-Dawson Yaw." Everyone, and I mean ev-ery-one, broke out in an uproar. The whole senior class and everyone who came to watch them graduate were clapping, cheering, crying (that would be Shane's mom shedding the tears). I just hoped everyone was genuinely happy for him. Shane was blushing a light crimson as he made it to the podium, looking awfully dapper in his black cap and gown, his striped button down and khaki shorts duo showing from underneath his robe. He looked adorable.
"Congratulations." Mister McBride said, shaking Shane's and and handing him his diploma. Shane nodded his thanks, accepted his diploma, and hurried off the stage. I'm sure standing in front of a whole crowd of students who never really paid you any attention until you were faced with a dilemma like Shane's was torture. I would've hauled ass off the stage, too.
Then it was time for speeches. Two people were up on stage: A short, blonde boy with cool glasses and a slight hint of lavender in his hair and a girl with short hair and a boy's black-designed robe on, wearing a cool hat on her head backwards, her graduation tassel fastened to her hat. They both looked super cool, like people I'd hang out with in school, and you could tell they were best friends. "To present her speech, we have Valedictorian, Hannah Hart." Mister McBride welcomed the girl up to the podium where she promptly cleared her throat and launched into her speech. "So...hi. I've known for a month or so I'd be giving this speech so I had a pretty decent amount of time to think of something for this. I'm normally not a serious person. I like to be silly, funny, and outgoing. But I'm going to...not be for a few minutes." Hannah said, smiling meekly at the crowd. "I began writing this speech maybe three weeks ago so excuse me for the past tense beginning...Here goes nothing."
