Chapter 7 - Where there's Smoke...
* Shane's POV *
"No, Shane...I need to say something." Joey said which instantly made me shut up. "I've only known you for, what, two days? But I've found myself falling more and more in love with you with each passing hour, minute, second. I love you. Shane." I couldn't believe he just said that. I could feel tears prick at my eyes and I knew I was a baby, but I couldn't help it. I didn't think anybody could love someone as fucked up and jaded as I am. Especially perfect, amazing Joey. Not only was he gorgeous but the way he talked to me...He was real. I don't mean like he wasn't a real person, or he didn't exist. I meant he wasn't fake with me...I didn't know if he was like that with Sawyer but I'm pretty sure he was. But it was all real for me.
I leaned in and kissed him quickly, pulling away to talk, "I actually loved you before I met you. I'd followed the news' stories about you and read newspaper and magazine articles. I knew a lot about you...The basics like your full name and birthday but that was enough. I knew if I ever got the chance to meet you, I'd fall hard....And I have. In this short little amount of time we've been given so far, Joey, I love you so much." We kissed again. It was short but it was gentle and passionate and I loved every second of it. But when we heard Sawyer start to stir, we flew apart like we'd burned each other. I slid off his lap and looked out the window. He took on the task of poking me and trying to annoy me. Sawyer sat up groggily and rubbed his sleepy eyes. "You guys been like that the whole time?" He grunted. I could tell he was still sleepy. Hopefully he went back to sleep before we landed.
Joey shook his head with a slight roll of his eyes. Sawyer had sat up by then and was visibly more awake. "I'm going to ask the pilot how much longer until we land." Sawyer said, nodding his head before walking up to the little's pilot cockpit and knocking on the door before opening it. He shut it behind him and we couldn't hear a thing from it. I continued looking out the window. The sun was just setting and it was the most beautiful time of day. I wondered how my mother's and brother's life was without me. I wondered if I hurt them by abandoning them. I wondered if the news caught on that I was apart of Joey and Sawyer now. I wondered if my dad hated on my siblings and mom more because I had left. I prayed with everything I had that they weren't getting it twice as hard because of me.
Joey leaned his head on my shoulder and I looked over at him. "You okay?" Was all he said. I nodded, leaning close to press my lips to his forehead. He smiled slightly. He was getting sleepy again. "Let's keep this whole thing a secret from Sawyer, okay?" Joey asked softly, lifting a brow. I nodded again and he seemed relieved. I pouted. "Why? Does he scare you? I thought you guys weren't...intimidate." Joey shook his head, sitting up all the way now. "I'm not scared of him." His voice got slightly higher. I knew he was lying. "We weren't 'intimidate'. I used to love Sawyer, yeah.." I wasn't hurt by this. I'd assumed all along they weren't lovers but I knew they had to feel something for each other. I shrugged. "But he started becoming a different person and my love turned to hate. But he still tries to use me for sex...That 'payment' he spoke of yesterday? Whenever I do something that he likes, he has sex with me to try and make up for it. But it doesn't work...Not like it used to." Joey was basically getting bullied, abused, and taken advantage of...
I felt horrible about it. I hugged him tight, knowing I had to keep this a secret from Sawyer against all costs. "It'll be our little secret." I said and he smiled.
He pulled quickly out of my embrace as we heard a soft groan from the cockpit. "Everything okay?" Joey called. The plane started going faster. "Sawyer?" Joey called, slightly louder this time. I glanced at the window, to see the sky rushing past us....As we tumbled to the ground.
There was smoke everywhere. It was hard to breath. It was even harder to see. "Joey?" I croaked out through a fit of coughing. "Huh?" I heard a mutter. It was definitely Joey. I started crawling through the debris. "Joey?" He was lying on his back, just looking at the sky. He was out of the way of most of the smoke and the wreckage. I knew he hadn't been badly hurt. He sat up quickly, as if just now remembering what had happened. "Shane? Are you okay?!" I nodded. "I'm fine...Where's Sawyer? What happened?" Joey pulled me close and put a finger to my lips. "Shh...I think Sawyer's the one who crashed the plane..We have to get out of here, where ever we are, before he finds us. I think he knows."
* Sawyer's POV *
There was dense smoke surrounding me on all sides. I felt like it was trapping me in. I started pawing my way through it and finally made it out. I breathed in fresh air and started glancing around for Shane and Joey. I had a few things in mind to say to them but I'm guessing they had already used their wee little brains to guess that I had crashed the plane. But there was nowhere to go. We were in Italy; in a large field separating Rome from Ciampino. I'd be able to see them if they tried to escape. I ducked behind the ruins of the cockpit, spotting them huddled together maybe seven or so feet away. This was too easy. I wasn't going to kill them...I just wanted to scare them. Have a laugh or two to myself. After all, I was a "Ruthless Criminal". Even Joey hated me. Come to think of it, I hated myself.
Joey and Shane should've at least tried to get a head start on me. They could still dash for it and have a good fifty yard lead. Oh well; they should know by now. Where's there's smoke...There's payback.
