John and I both looked pleadingly and obviously annoyed at Sherlock. 'Come on! You can't stay there all day! It's New Year's Eve and you're still working, that's not fair.' I said and Sherlock answered grumpily without even looking up. 'I'm just busy with investigating, so if you don't mind, I will continue solving a severe crime now instead of drinking champagne and uselessly being cheery for just another not at all special day.'
'Not at all special?' quoted John. 'A new year, new chances, new start. It's certainly special and you will celebrate it with us, Sherlock. Honestly, I forbid you to look at your chemistry set from this moment forward.'
Sherlock grinned. 'You? Forbid me? Ha! Good luck with getting me away from this set. Why don't you just go and be off so I can focus? If you aren't going to help me with my case, then go and be useless somewhere else.'
John and I went away from our grumpy Sherlock to plan our revenge on the rude detective. Or, as I called it, to help Sherlock with his case. 'I've got an idea...' I said and recognised the mixture of mischief and joy in John's eyes for it was also in mine...
*Later that evening*
John and I watched Sherlock playing with his chemistry toys. 'Any minute now...' I said. 'Any minute...' And then, while John and I were trying not to laugh as we watched the ignorant Sherlock, suddenly a loud noise was heard and Sherlock's chemistry set exploded into beautiful sparks.
'HAPPY NEW YEAR, SHERLOCK!' John and I shouted happily.
As the smoke cleared away, we could see Sherlock's face appearing. On it was ash, dirt and the grumpiest look you could ever imagine.
