*Repeat part of previous chapter*
As he came closer and closer, I thought of anything I could use as a weapon. Anything at all. There was nothing I could think of but the necklace I had hung around my neck. It was a sharp little dagger and although it was only for decoration, it could do some damage. He neared me, I could hear him breathing fast and growling through it. I could smell the smell of his victim's blood that was stained upon his clothing.
Slowly, he neared me.
And I was ready.
When he was in the right distance, I spread out my hands and thought to touch his face. But instead I felt the hard material of a mask. Quickly, I had taken off my necklace and used the mere dagger that was on it. I had put the sharp edge of my 'weapon' in his right eye. While he was screaming, I had quickly run off.
And now was I here, in the flat of a doctor and a mean detective, telling my story. They listened to me carefully and at the ending, the detective asked: 'A mask? He was wearing a mask?' I could hear disbelieve in his voice. 'Yes.' I answered. 'Are you sure she isn't making this up?' He asked John. 'I'm not making this up!' I shouted and jumped up. 'Where were you to see if I made this up?' I asked Sherlock.
'Where were you when I was facing that monster? Where were you when I was preparing to die? Where were you when... Where were you when I looked into that maniac's eyes?! You weren't there, Sherlock, you can't judge whether I am telling the truth or making up lies.'
The detective looked at me with a confused look in his eyes, but a satisfied grin on his face. He seemed amused by me. 'What is it?' I asked. 'Nothing.' Sherlock said. 'Then why are you smirking?' I asked him. 'Because, my dear Elizabeth,' he said and rose too, 'you have just marked one of Britain's most maniacal serial killer in history.' He placed a kiss on the crown of my head and almost danced around the flat. 'Oh, this is amazing! John, what day is it?' He asked the doctor who looked from me to his friend repeatedly with the same look of confusion on his face. 'Euhm, it's the 18th of August.' He said doubtingly. 'Oh,' Sherlock said, 'I was sure it was Christmas! Britain's most feared serial killer now discovered! You!' He said and pointed at me. I must admit I was a bit scared as he walked towards me. 'You are a genius. Look at her John, she is more genius and she's hasn't gotten as much experience as you!' John looked at Sherlock, a bit offended.
'And why am I genius?' I asked. 'Because you've marked the culprit by pointing him in his eye. Did you put it in his eye with power?' He asked and I nodded. 'Excellent! Then he has a swollen right eye now! He can't be wearing a mask at day and I've heard rumours he has been around Fleet street these days. Come John, we have to go!'
And I went along with them. I must confess I was slightly afraid to meet the man I had seen last night and I couldn't understand Sherlock's happiness as I found the man walking in the shadows of the buildings, trying not to get noticed.
When Sherlock caught the man, he looked around in distress. He looked at me, he recognised me. The serial killer growled the same sound I had heard last night and I started to shake a little. The man protested but Sherlock held him tightly as John stood next to me. 'Is this him?' Sherlock asked. The man looked at me, his cold animal-like eyes shone with hatred as he shook his head slowly. He wanted me to lie. 'Is this the killer you saw?' Sherlock repeated. The man kept on shaking his head. I doubted, feared, shook and swallowed. But I knew what to say.
'Yes.'
The man shouted. 'No! No! Let go off me, you filth!' He tried. Then his voice rose. 'I'm innocent! I'm innocent! She's lying! I am- she is...' He looked at me, stared into my eyes with a gaze that pierced through my soul. The pure hatred in them and the thirst for blood made me shiver. His voice pierced through the air in a horrible growl as he said the words meant for me. 'She is dead.'
