We were driving down the highway with great speed and I watched the traffic signs passing by. Unfamiliar names of unfamiliar cities. 'Can't you tell me where we're going?' I asked Greg who smiled at me from aside. 'Nope.' He said, enjoying my ignorance. 'You'll hate it.' He said, still smirking.
'If I'd hate it, why do you take me to it?' I asked.
'It's for your own good.'
We drove on until he suddenly pulled over, stopping next to the road. 'Okay, I know you don't like it, but it's necessary.' He showed me a blindfold. 'Put this on... please?' I looked at the black cloth, looked up to meet Greg's eyes, and then nodded sassily. 'Fine.'
He wrapped the cloth around my eyes and bound the edges together. 'Okay, you'll have to promise me that you won't peek, do we have a deal?' I nodded, still with the cloth around my eyes.
'If it's really necessary... just tell me why we're outside.'
Greg started to drive again. 'Yesterday, when I told you about the case I've recently solved, you told me that you'd never dare to do anything as dauntless as I did to catch that killer. And, although I must admit that I usually don't take those kinds of measures and was slightly -slightly- afraid, I think you'd dare more than you think...'
I turned my head to Greg, though the only thing I could see was utter darkness. 'Please don't take me to some sort of daredevil thing, I won't ever forgive you for that.'
I heard him chuckle. 'Don't worry: you'll love it... and hate it. You'll love to hate it, or hate to love it... It's either way completely safe.'
The car stopped a couple minutes later and a loud sound was heard. I heard Greg getting out the car and some time later the door on my side was opened. Fingers wrapped themselves around my arm and gently pulled me up. 'Come, come, dear, we're there.' He had to shout because of a continuity of a loud sound.
'Greg?' I asked with fear in my voice. 'Yes?' I heard the familiar voice say as the arms wrapped around me guided me into some direction. 'What is that noise? Is that a helicopter?!'
There was only a chuckle as answer.
I refused to move my legs and tried to get back into the car when suddenly the arms that were wrapped around me, now lifted me in bridal style.
'Greg! Stop it!' I shouted and fanatically moved my legs. 'Easy, my love. It will be fine!'
He walked quite a long time, still carrying me, and eventually put me down on my feet. I tried to run immediately but the arms again wrapped themselves around me. 'No, no, you're not going anywhere, sweetheart.' That cute chuckle again. I first felt many belts around me, securing something heavy on me, and then more belt securing me to a chair after I had been placed upon one. Greg sat next to me.
'Here we go.' He seemed to laugh a little. Then the same fingers took away the cloth and my sight returned. 'What the-' I cut myself off as I looked around me.
Helicopter, just as I had thought. 'Are you mad?!' I looked at Greg with fear mirrored on my face. He looked back with lights of excitement. 'Oooh, you're going to hate this.' He said, still smirking. I looked down, we were already ten metre above my most beloved ground. 'Too late to jump now.' Said Greg. 'But the time will come.'
I looked at Greg with big eyes of fright as my breath was taken away for a moment.
'You're planning on jumping out?' I asked with a high, squeaking voice.
'Uh-huh, and it's going to be awesome. Someone once told me that we should face our fears in order to move on with our lives, I trust that this quote is familiar to you.'
I cursed myself for my stupidity and sighed. 'What happens if I don't want to jump?' Greg flickered his glowing brown eyes at me, and smiled mischievously. 'If you don't want to jump? Simple: then I'll push you.'
'Would you really do that?'
'Certainly.'
'I can feel the love.'
He chuckled. 'Don't worry, it'll be fun. Whatever you do, don't panic. Maybe you can imagine yourself in a Bond-film, you know, jumping out of a chopper that explodes while you're in mid-air, or something like that.'
My eyes became wider in fear. 'Is this thing going to explode?!'
He put one hand on my back and rubbed it a bit. 'Don't worry.' He said softer, soothing me slightly.
But then I looked down and my breathing became faster again.
'Don't look down then!' Said Greg. 'For goodness Sake!'
Not much later, the pilot looked behind him and nodded at us. 'Is the lady ready?' He asked.
'No!' I shouted, but Greg nodded at the dark-haired pilot. 'Definitely.' The pilot laughed. 'Okay then! Let's drop dead!' The doors were opened and I thanked the pilot for his pleasantly encouraging comment before Greg made me rise.
'On my mark.' He said. I detected a bit of fear in his eyes as well, now he felt the wind blazing around him and the open sky underneath him. 'One...' He started. 'Two...' I squealed. 'Three.' Said my James Bond and he jumped. I didn't jump, but Greg had grasped my wrist before he jumped and now I was flying along with him.
'If I die,' I shouted loudly, 'I'm going to kill you!'
We were soaring though the sky, and Greg commanded me to relax so I tried. The Earth underneath me became bigger and bigger with great speed, so I tried to look away from the frightening sight and focused on the fingers around my wrist. 'Look at that!' Screamed Greg with widened eyes because of the imposing sight that was underneath him. 'Such beauty!' He shouted, and I agreed silently. It indeed was wonderful, green and blue, white and many other colours mixing into the landscape that I recognised. All looked so small, but also beautiful and wonderfully peaceful. Just as the flight had become. The wind pushed us everywhere and we fell down while enjoying the view and the great rush of adrenaline that flowed through us. I imagined the James Bond scene Greg talked about and laughed since it was played out by me and my Bond.
For a moment I feared that my parachute wasn't there, but then I remembered a video I had once seen about falling down a plane without a parachute and wondered if those hints also applied to chopper fall-downs. 'Now!' Shouted Greg and, luckilly, we both opened a parachute.
I took his hand in mine as we fell and landed gently, just as planned. 'Amazing!' I cried out and hugged the wonderful idiot who had pulled me out of a chopper, still breathing heavily from excitement. We parted and Greg looked at me, shining intensely with pride, showing his loving nature with his gentle eyes as they stared at me. A smile that showed satisfaction and delight on his lips.
'I knew you could do it, my love.'
