Chapter 3

Amber

Saturday arrived. The night was young. I wore a vibrant, red dress that reached knee length, tight on top, and flowy at the end. I paired it with small, black, laced heels and red lipstick that made my lips look more desirable.

"Oh my God. You look so pretty!" Kim complimented as I slipped inside her convertible.

"And"—eyeing my loose hair, she gasped dramatically—"your hair looks even better straight ironed. I love it! All the girls are going to be jelly as hell."

I smiled, flattered by the compliments she gave me. She wore a lovely, satin, black dress, matching her glossy, black hair and beautiful, smoky eye makeup.

"Thanks. You don't look so bad yourself."

She flicked her hair behind her shoulder. "Je vous remercie."

I laughed at the unfamiliar language. "What?"

"It means thank you in French. I learned it in my French class." She released a giggle. "Which I'm failing... miserably."

We shared a good laugh as she drove off to the party. The longer she drove, the more nervous and excited I felt. I haven't been to a party for a while. Last time I went was a year ago and I was a sophomore. Emily had came with me that night and the cops showed up and ruined everything. All the drunk kids ran for their lives including us. God knows what would've happened if we had got caught by the cops that night. I would've been in serious trouble.

I let out a shaky breath.

Anything could happen tonight, but hopefully nothing bad does.

Kim's car stopped at an isolated area and in front of a huge black gate.

My jaw fell when I glimpsed the two-story mansion—the size of three houses combined—behind the gate. The moonlight gleamed on the many cars and people that lingered outside.

Kim stuck out her head and waved at the surveillance camera. The gate automatically opened and she slowly drove forward.

"Who lives here again?"

"Heather," Kim said. "She goes to our school."

Wow. Whoever Heather is, she's filthy rich and not to mention very popular.

Kim parked her convertible. Howling laughter, loud cheers, and booming music slipped outside those doubled doors.

Whoa. How much people are in there?

Kim flashed a bright, toothy smile. "Are you ready?"

I inhaled deeply and exhaled. I nodded. Although my stomach swarmed with butterflies, I smiled back, matching the same enthusiasm as her.

"Yeah. Let's go."

Entering the party was like a different dimension ready to be explored. The large living room was packed with all kinds of people dancing and jumping to the powering music. Some were leaning by the wall, talking and laughing. While others were, well, drinking until the sun came up.

"Text me when you wanna leave! Go and find Donny!" Kim yelled in my ear. She leaned back and shot me a knowingly smile. "I heard he wants to see you!"

Dumbfounded, I watched as she headed through the moving crowd and disappeared. And just like that, I was all alone, standing by the doorway like an outsider.

I honestly thought Kim and I were going to party together and have fun, but then again, I knew why she left. She wanted me to talk to him privately and I couldn't blame her. The thought of Donny wanting to see me brought a warm smile to my lips.
