Chapter 12

Kim

What did Rick tell Amber last night?

Did he say anything about me?

I thought this over and over again as I rested my head on Jonathan's bare chest. The morning light seeped through the thick, dark blue curtains, warming my face and his. I hugged my boyfriend tighter.

It didn't matter what Rick had told her. Rick and I were over—past tense.

I shouldn't care anymore.

But those thoughts still lingered in my head.

Damn. I needed to change my thought process. I was repeating that same shitty cycle when I had broke up with Rick.

Obsessive—I know.

Tell me about it...

"I don't feel like going to school today," I mumbled.

"You don't have to."

"But I do," I said. "I have to drop off Amber."

"Drop her off and then come back."

I smiled and kissed his chest. "Okay."

I glanced up at him. His eyes smiled down at me.

He slapped my butt. "Now go."

I blew out a laugh as I removed the covers. I got up and reached for my dress on the floor. I slipped it on and he watched me from his bed.

"Is your brother still here?"

"I don't know. You have to check," he said. "Why?"

"Because he has to give me his notebook from class. I forgot to write down the notes on Friday."

"Since when you're slacking?"

I giggled. "I am not slacking."

"Mhm."

"Babe, I have a decent C in that class."

He choked out a laugh. I leaned over and kissed his lips.

A smile reached my mouth. "See you later."

I slowly leaned away, but his hand caught my neck and lured me back in. My lips touched his again.

"You mean, see you in twenty minutes?" he whispered.

I giggled. "Yeah, that."

I left his bedroom and walked through the hallway to Donny's bedroom. I tapped on his door.

"Donny boy, are you there?"

"Come in."

I slowly opened the door and peeped inside. Donny was standing by his black dresser. He adjusted his watch and looked at me.

"I need your notes from class."

He motioned his head to the black bed and my eyes landed on the edge—a black notebook laid there.

"Thanks." I smiled. "I'll give it to you later today."

He nodded and I walked over to pick up his notebook. I lingered in his bedroom to ask about Amber.

"So," I drawled. "I saw you all up on Amber yesterday."

He chuckled.

"Did you ask her yet?"
