"to kill him?" hongbin seems to be surprised by my statement.

"yes. a plan to kill him. you always seem to come up with solutions no matter how little time there is and they always work" i explain and he rolls his eyes and looks at taeyong who keeps his head low.

"the only way to kill him is if someone he loves takes his final breath. last time i checked he doesn't love anyone" hongbin says quietly.

"anyone who is alive. there are people who have died, from his past that he would've loved." taeyong's words seem to turn on a light in hongbin's head.

he turns to face me once more.
"you can morph into other people right?"

i nod slowly and he smiles as he faces taeyong. "this may work. this might just work."

taeyong looks at him in slight confusion and looks over to me to see if i am understanding anything.

i just shrug and he looks back at hongbin.

"we need to find out who used to be in jeonghan's life and who he used to love before coming here" hongbin explains and that's when it hits me.

"because then wonshik, you can morph into that person and fool jeonghan. you can betray him and kill him."

"how are we to learn about his past though? he did his best to make sure all things relevant to it was disposed of." i lower my voice and hongbin does the same.

"you need to convince jeonghan that you want to learn about his past life. you want to know what drives him to be a perfect shield so you can learn from him. he may give you a vision on what his past was like."

i nod slowly and tap my forefinger on my lip.

"this could work."

"wouldn't he think that it's suspicious? his star shield is suddenly willing to let go of his mortal love to learn about his past and become better" taeyong voices my concerns.

"that is why" hongbin walks over to me and places a hand on my shoulder. "you have to convince him that you really are willing to let go."

jaehwan is a whining idiot and a typical mortal. yes i was blinded for a few moments but i realise my mistakes now and i want to fix them.

that is what i will tell jeonghan if he questions my intentions. hongbin and i spent 30 minutes discussing what would be the right thing to say.

i am standing outside jeonghan's office. i'm rehearsing what i'm going to say over and over again in my head.

i have one chance and one chance only. i cannot screw up. i guess this will be my only attempt at keeping this death that i have.

"are you going to come in or just examine the wood on my door all day?" jeonghan calls out, startling me.

i open the door and bow my head briefly before taking a seat before him.

"are you here to give me a speech on how you are never going to give up on that mortal of yours?"

"the opposite actually" i retort and he raises his brows. he leans back in his seat, "tell me."

"jaehwan is a whining idiot and a typical mortal. yes i was blinded for a few moments but i realise my mistakes now and i want to fix them." i begin and jeonghan seems to be pleased by what he is hearing.

"but to do this, i want to know what your life was like. i want to know who keeps you from straying away from the rules and who keeps you in line. because i am hoping to learn from you and be able to do the same."

he nods slowly and pulls his necklace out from behind his shirt. he gently snaps the chain and hands it to me.

i look at the silver heart attached to the end to see a name engraved on the surface.

yeri.

"she was my betrothed. we were going to be married but i was killed before we had the chance." he explains.

"every time i even think about straying from this path, i think of her. i think of how upset she was when i was murdered before her and think that she would be like that if i died again."

i gently close my hand into a fist around the pendant and think about my next words wisely.

"can i see it?"

jeonghan hesitates before leaning forward onto the desk and makes eye contact with me.

i keep my expression plain as he does so.

"will it help you?"

"yes." i nod once, firmly.

he chuckles and pushes away from the table. i find myself holding my breath as he walks around the desk and places his hands on my temples.

"no one will be able to see or hear you. you will wake up when i let go. i will be living these memories again but you will not be able to speak with me." he informs me before tightening his grip.

before i know it, everything goes black.

i slowly open my eyes to examine my surroundings. i am in some kind of bedroom. it looks as though it belongs to a wealthy person.

that's when the door suddenly swings open and i see a man and a woman madly kissing each other.

by the way they are dressed, i can tell that we are hundreds of years back in the past.

the man pushes the door shut with his arm and throws the woman onto the bed and begins to unfasten his shirt.

the woman, long, light coloured hair and a small but pretty face smiles as she waits.

that's when i recognise the hair. his long hair.

this is jeonghan. and i'm assuming the woman is yeri.

A/N - what do you think of hongbin's plan? will it work? what will be revealed in jeonghan's past?
