CHARLIE POV
Calm down. You will be fine. It's one lunch. I told myself. No you won't be fine. You will freak out, not sit with them, or hurt or embarrass yourself. My snarky subconscious snickered. Have I mentioned how much I hate her/him?
When we sat at the soccer team's table, I immediately looked around to see who was there. A few players I didn't really know and Jake. Jake is too funny for his own good, and cute. I mean he is adorable and awesome, but I'm not attracted to him, or Brent, in any way except maybe we would be good friends. I was snapped out of my thoughts by Jake and Brent yelling together. I could handle Jake and Brent alone for the length of lunch, but together? Oh mighty Dumbledore, help me please get through this with my eardrums intact.
Lunch went on, and I didn't feel as nervous as I did at first. The guys, especially Jake and Lenny, a tall, lanky, copper-ish brown-ish haired boy, acted as though I was friends with them for years, not minutes.
"Sooooo.... What's up?"
"Who, me?" I blinked.
"You are the one I made eye contact with. You doing anything fun tonight?"
"Studying. Why?"
"Lenny ditched me for his girlfriend, and none of the guys will go with me."
"Where are you going?"
"There's this amazing new ice cream parlor. I've been wanting to go, but today's the only free day I have. Those jerks think I'm embarrassing when I have ice cream, just because I love it so much."
"Are you asking me, like, on a date? 'Cause if you aren't, I must have misread. I do that sometimes." I rambled.
"Sure, it's a date." Jake laughed.
"Well, I don't go on a date if a boy don't go on and ask me." I exclaimed in a perfect southern accent.
"My dearest Charlotte, would you do me the honor of joining me on an excursion to the ice cream parlor?" Jake said in a fancy accent, looking up at me from one knee.
"Of course."
