Percy
I sit down and sigh, why did Annabeth do that? I have mixed feelings right now, I'm sad because of Nico, mad and disappointed at Annabeth, and relieved because we actually got away from the Amazons. Well, not fully away from them, but out of the same room. I turn around to face Annabeth and take a breath so I don't explode.
"Annabeth,"
"Percy, listen, I'm really sorry and I didn't mean to do it ,it ju-"
She tries to explain to me but I cut her off,
"No, let's just forget about it and try to focus on finding the trident and get out of here,"
Annabeth sighs with relief and stands up. I stand up as well and hear footsteps coming towards the closet.
"Everybody! Sh!"
I whisper-yell. I turn off the lights and tell everyone to get against the wall and be quiet.
The footsteps get closer and closer and my heartbeat is going 50 mph. The footsteps go right outside the door and we hear whispers. We see a flashlight beam come in here from the crack under the door. I guess they're trying to see any feet on the floor. The beam disappears and the footsteps and whispers get far away.
"It's clear!"
I whisper. We all let out breaths we all didn't know we were holding in. I look over at Ariana, she looks, empty. Now that I think about it, she would have cracked a joke by now to cheer us up. She hasn't even smiled since we've been here.
"Ariana, are you okay?"
She looks up from her staring at her shoes and nods. The look on her face doesn't look right. Is she really that sad that Nico died? She just met him. It can't be that.
"Ariana,"
I ask again.
"Yes. I'm fine, I promise."
She looks up at me and fakes a smile.
"We need to go."
Annabeth says after looking out the door,
"Where?"
Hazel asks.
"I guess we will have to go back to the animals, it said 'animals in cages' in the prophecy. Might as well start there."
We all nod in agreement and run out the door and head towards the animals. We close the the giant metal doors and we realize it's very cold in here. We all walk between the cages searching for anything "trident like".
"Uh, guys?"
Ariana yells. We all run over to her and there is a lion, barking softly, like a dog.
"What the?"
Leo asks. He looks at it more closely and it snaps at him. Leo screams like a little girl and jumps back. The lion starts neighing like a horse. We all look at each other with the same confused looks on our faces. Leo kneels down and gets as close to the lion as it can. While the lion is licking its paw, Leo quickly pets it's fur,
"It's cold,"
"What?"
Annabeth asks and does the same Leo did,
"What the heck? It is cold!"
She exclaims.
Leo tells everyone to be quiet and he puts his ear to the cage,
"It's a machine,"
"Well, that's new."
I say and raise my eyebrows,
"Do you think we somehow need this machine-lion-dog-horse?"
Leo asks Annabeth.
"I guess. See if it talks."
"Really, see if it talks? Really?"
Asks Leo,
"Yes, really!"
Leo sighs and rolls his eyes,
"Lion, do you speak?"
He asked in a monotone sarcastic voice,
"Actually, I do."
Leo's eyes widen and he looks at us,
"W-what? You do speak?"
"Well, what am I doing right now?"
"Speaking..."
Leo trails off,
"Exactly, now what do you kids want from me."
He demands more than asks,
"We wanted to know if you know anything about a trident somewhere around here?"
Leo asks the lion.
"Well, no. But I do know where to find it?"
He tells us, and somehow manages to do a creepy smile at us that scares me really bad.
It's okay, I didn't want to sleep tonight anyway.
"Well, where do we find it?!"
Annabeth asks, annoyed.
"Oh, that part. Yeah, I probably should tell you guys that."
"Well..."
Annabeth does a rolling motion with her hands to say keep going.
"And you will find it in a casino, I'm not saying which one, but a casino. You will have to go to the back and look for a guy with red-QUACK."
"What on earth is red quack."
Leo asks turning his head to look at me.
I roll my eyes and push Leo out of the way,
"Please don't tell me you've switched your language."
The lion nods and quacks a few more times before turning around and falling asleep.
"Really?"
Frank asks.
"Really."
I tell him,
"Okay, so he either meant a) red eyes. Which I doubt it, but it's a possibility. B) red hair or c) any red clothing,"
Annabeth says
"I honestly think it's either the hair or clothing but I could be wrong."
"We'll just see when we get there."
I say.
