IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT AT THE END OF THIS CHAPTER. BE SURE TO READ THE A.N.
Keke POV
"Are you okay, Key?" Kyle asked as we're walking down the road.
For I week now, I had been down the dumps. After finding out your boyfriend had been cheating on you... you're not supposed to be happy, ya know? But for some reason I just wanted to go to his house and talk to him. Tell him I know. Let him know that everything between us was a mistake. All that sentimental and cliché things that you normally see in movies and books.
I decided today was the day that I'd go to his house and confront him. I needed to let all this pass, but that was impossible to do if you don't face your fears. That leads to where I'm at today.
"Yeah," I sighed, "I'm fine."
He nodded and patted my back.
"Let's just get this over with, yah?"
He nodded again and kissed my forehead. "Love ya, little cousin."
"I'm older than you, Kyle." I laughed.
"But I'm taller and stronger." I rolled my eyes at his remark and shook my head.
"I guess."
He smiled and threw me a thumbs-up.
After about ten minutes, we stood in front of Khalil's house and the anxiety was getting to me. Sensing my nervousness, Kyle ran a hand up and down my arm and pulled me towards him and into a hug.
"You can do it, brat." Kyle said.
"I know, little dick." I laughed.
He rolled his eyes and lightly pushed me towards the front door. "Go get em, tiger."
I slowly made my way towards the front door. A few seconds passed by and I knocked again. The process occurred harder and harder each time. When I felt like giving up, the door opened to reveal a panicked woman.
Looking her over, I was able to assume that she was Khalil's mother. She looked a lot like him with a fatter face. She was thick and short with messy hair and tear stained cheeks. Her eyes were puffy and red while her nose was pink.
"Can I help you?" she asked. Her voice was stern but motherly at the same time.
"I - I'm looking for Khalil.." I stuttered. I was never good with talking to parents.
"I was just about to go visit him," she said confusing me.
"Visit him?" I asked, tilting head. "I thought he lived here."
She nodded. "He's in the hospital for a while. Sadly," she sniffled. "Come with me, Darling. He'll probably be happy to find out a beautiful girl like yourself came to visit him."
I unintentionally blushed and looked down to the floor. She simply giggled but I could hear the stress and sadness behind it. Absolutely heartbreaking.
"And who's this handsome fellow?" She asked.
"My cousin, Kyle. He walked me here for safety measures."
Khalil's mom tilted her head and furrowed her brows. "Safety measures?"
"Just in case.."
She shrugged off the comment and led us to her car. A nice grey Ford truck with five seats and a big trunk. 24" rims and wonderful air conditioning. Even in the luxurious car, I still felt suffocating. It was awkward to be in the same environment with the mother of your cheating ex-boyfriend who you were just about to curse out.
"Oh, where are my manners. I'm Khalil's mother, Yolanda." She said, holding one hand out for me to shake while the other was kept on the steering wheel. "What's your name, Precious?"
"Keyandra," I smiled. "But everybody calls me Keke."
Yolanda gasped and squealed. "YOU'RE Keke? Wow! I've heard so much about you."
I giggled and nodded my head. "Really?"
She nodded. "Definitely. Khalil talks about you a lot. He mentioned you two dating and how he was going to introduce us soon. He was really head-over-heels for you. Lately he's been grumpy and gloomy because of his uncle, Travis. It's okay now. Anyways, I can't believe my Khalil got so lucky as to find a beautiful girl like you to date. This is so wonderful! I need a picture to send my sister."
I ignored Kyle laughing in the background and noting how I'm a bitch. I giggled at her reaction and replied with a simple thank you at the compliment of me being pretty.
"Okay, we're here. I'll park the car, you and Kyle get to walking. He's in room 143." She said, looking around the busy parking lot for a possible parking space. I nodded and replied another thank you, this time for the ride.
We exited the car and made our way to the entrance of the building before going to inside. Kyle placed his arm around my shoulders and rubbed my arm with his big hands. I felt safer in his arms than Khalil's. But not nearly as safe as I felt in Sanchez's arms.
"143, right here." I pointed out as the room number came to view.
We stopped at the door and stared at each other. My stomach was tossing and turning and I felt nauseous. I suddenly wanted to leave, but it was already too late.
"Go." Kyle said, gently pushing me.
I nodded and opened the door slowly. Khalil's body came to view and I became even more nervous than before. I took a deep breath before going to his bed and gently pushing his body to wake up. He groaned and opened his eyes with a yawn. He looked at me and rubbed his eyes as if I'd disappear.
"Keke?"
